I have, and seen lots, mostly crosses with tree dogs but some pure running dog. They're like everything else, some good, some bad. Most are tight mouthed on cold tracks. Some tree good, some don't. Almost all of the them can run pretty good. Pretty much depends on the individual dog. You can go through a lot of them to find one that is pretty well balanced (bay, tree, open).

ive tried some- i liked some of them alot

- dont have any right now- no particular reason why -

i agree with what kickemall said

i think 1/4 or even 1/8 running dog will add some speed --

if you can find a gritty, fast , open mouthed , cold trailing ,running dog that trees- you dont need a treehound - :D

I've hunted with three or four but not a lot. They are about everything I'd want in dog except, the ones I hunted with, didn't open on a cold track. They'll trail without saying anything (although I'm not sure how cold of a track) then start opening when its getting pretty hot. Fast, tough, good built dogs with voices you can hear and tree good. The ones I saw bayed good to. If your looking for dogs to run hot tracks with then you can't hardly beat them. I think he's charging a fair price because your getting a started dog and almost never a cull because hes worked with them for a couple months before you get them and done the culling. You may not get a world beater or quite the dog you hoped for but at least a dog that will be something. If you figure your time and money into a pup that may be a cull, then the money he charges is a bargain. If you call him and tell him what you want in a dog he can usually send you one that is more likely to fit your needs. I've never met him, don't have any of his dogs because I like open mouth dogs and have no affiliation with him, thats just what I've seen from the guys I've hunted with that have them.

ive got a 12 year old running female she still will out run trail tree most of my younger and afew of my seasoned dogs Funny thing is I got her from a guy when she was 2 and she was more or less a house dog Ive crossed her with my walkers and plotts and 85% of the pups have turned out to be pretty descent dogs.
