works good for 'doggers

Just thought I'd post a couple of things I have found that are great for hounddoggers. I have heard of guys using marine "deck plates" in dog boxes, so I ordered some, and they work pretty slick. They are made as access panels on boats. They come in 4", 6", and 8" and the 6" size is perfect for rigging holes. You can get them at boat supply stores or I got mine from Cabelas. I just use mine for those warm spring days and then when the snow is powder or its cold just screw the lids on and they are watertight.

The other thing I have been using is horse trailer matts. They work great on top of dog houses, in dog boxes and on rigging decks. They are water proof and cheaper than a sheet of plywood. Like a 5' x 7' matt that is 3/4" thick is about $45. My dogs love to lay on them on top of their dog houses and they beat the heck out of straw in dog boxes which invariably ends up breaking up into dust or getting wet and moldy. They are pretty soft and don't absorb any water. They are kind of heavy though. You can get them at any farm and ranch supply store.

I made them. Sure wish I had a aluminum welder though... snow mobile box is steel frame with aluminum skin riveted on.

I like your setup Catdogs. I haul a trialer around with two quads or two sleds. It would be real nice to have everything on the truck. Just don't know how to haul two quads and the dogs.

I apoligize that you are confused and maybe my statement of "warm spring days" means I leave them open while flying down the trail. Anyway, I don't for the reasons you mentioned, I'm not rigging lions from the sled box they are just for air. If we stop for a while or when the box is on the truck, then I open them as shown in the pictures. So yes, having 6" holes in a dog sled box that is getting pulled behind a snowmobile would be stupid. BUT, THESE HAVE SCREW ON COVERS SO I CAN FIX THE "STUPID" HOLES WITH THE "STUPID" COVERS! Maybe you could fix your "stupid hole" ( :o ) with some duct tape?

love the dog sled setup. I guess you don't have to justify what works for you to any of us. It's always nice when your trying to show folks what works good for you and some loud mouthed dick pipes up. keep doing whats working and don't let him bother you. there's always one of those guys out there, carry on. Very well said! It only takes a couple of minutes for a dog box to heat up so hot that all your dogs could be dead in minutes after they've been out running for a while. I guess he'd rather keep his dogs inside without any ventilation until they are all dead. He obviously doesn't hunt much.
