I hope everyone had a great Labor Day...Mine was quite memorable...Every year,we meet under the rim for a reunion camp out...My stepmom and her husband come out from Oklahoma every year to attend.Saturday, I busted out of camp early because a buddy had seen a bear outside of his place up north..(Yes, I do take my dogs to the reunion )....I was gone most of the day...Got my butt chewed a little by my stepmom for not visiting more with the rest of the family... ( I think it was more that I took 4 of my cousins with me :P ) Anyway, had a great weekend.

We were packing up this morning and I got a call from a buddy of mine . He was out quad riding and they jumped a lion . He wanted me to haul butt and come run it. I told him I ws on my way...Here was the problem. My stepmom and her husband were following me home to spend a couple of nights with us   ....Whats a son to do......HMMMM...I knew my buddy was going to beat me to the lion , as it was way too hot too wait for me...It was already 95 degrees where he was.. I decided to wait it out before letting them know I wanted to go after this lion...

As it worked out,my buddy caught it before I was off the mountain. The good news was that he had it on a bluff where his dogs couldn't get at it . The lion was sleeping and he wanted to know if I wanted to bring some pups in. Another great thing was that a person could drive a quad in to where the lion was.... :D :D ..Needless to say, I was straightening some curves going home...

I got home and had my quads loaded before my stepmom got to my house...When they drove up , they were giving me the " WHATS UP " look...The cat was out of the bag, so I said.. "Hey you wanna go see a lion real quick????? Too my surprise, they said... SURE....I loaded pups and cameras and we were off....My wife drove my stepmom and the boys loaded up with me..

In 20 minutes, I met my buddy and we unloaded the quads. My wife took my stepmom on her quad and her husband Lester road with my buddy on his Rhino...Here is the kicker guys....My stepmom is 68 and Lester is 72  ...We busted down a trail and wash for about 3 miles ...When we got to the bluff , all you could see was the tail and the butt of the lion...My stepmom couldnt see it. I took some dogs and gingerly scaled the thorn covered brush up to the rocks..( I was in shorts )...I got to the ledge and met the lion...It was a small tom and it wasn't real happy I was there ..I snapped up some photos before I lifted one of my pups up to the ledge ..There was some spitting and growling going on , and then it was fight on..The lion bailed and went straight down the cliff to the wash where everyone was. I wish I had a video camera going to catch the 68 year old red headed woman trying to get out of that wash :D :D ...Lion and hounds were coming right at her....I was yelling..." Can ya see the lion now mom ". :P :P

The lion treed about 25yrds from her and she and Lester got a birds eye view ... She told me that it was most exciting thing that has ever happened to her......We took some photos and walked the 30 yards to the quads and headed back to the trucks....It was a great day to say the least...Good luck to ya...Coop
