I have been feeding Black Gold dog food and liked their 24/20 the best. But there price keeps going up and the dealer has been jerking me around so I am looking at switching dog foods. Anybody feeding a comparable dog food that might be cheaper?

Been feeding SportMix for a few years now and been pleased with the results. I have heard good things about the Southern States Advance line of feed and been trying a few dogs on it to compare with the SportMix.

I have a dog that has hip dysplasia that is one of the dogs that I am trying the SS feed on and he seems to have a jump in his step. So far I have liked the results and just bought 13 bags of it last week to see how the rest do on it.

For those of you not aware with this feed, here is some info:

We have tried every kind of dog food you could dream of. I have settled on the Diamond High Energy. This is great dog food. It's a little more expensive than some of the others but not bad at all. The best thing that I have found is that after about a month of feeding it I cut the dogs way back. They will just flat uot get too fat feeding them a two pound coffee can once a day. I believe that what you pay in the begining you make up for in the end. It's went up from 19.99 a bag to 23.99 but still the best for the dollar. Give it a chance, you won't notice how good it is for about a month or so. I believe the High Energy is 24/20 also. Good luck!!!

We don't get Diamond around here but my dogs have been doing pretty good on Little Whiskers cat food. Yep it is amazing stuff and I sort of stumbled on it by accident. Well my wife has a soft spot for all these homeless wild cats around the area so she got to buying this bargain cat food and feeding them poor little helpless varmints. Well we got a pretty good passel of them coming in and I got to noticing they started looking really slick and good and healthy so I thought well? So I figured they could teach my hounds to eat that stuff so while there was a big wad of them all gathered up around that big bowl of their's I just cut about a half a dozen of them hounds loose. Well they went for that bowl with gusto let me tell you! Why they ate cat food, cat bowl, cats and all, and by golly them dogs look better than ever to me. LOL! Course I can only see them thru one eye cuz my other one is swelled shut. LOL!,

Both lines of food are made with Chicken meal as the first ingredient. They make there own food, they have there own onsite lab, they Arkat is the real deal! Thanks for the replies, I have fed Daimond in the past and the dogs do pretty good on it, my main complaint was the amount of dogcrap I got from it. And here it has jumped from $17 a bag to $27 a bag in the last 3 years, and that is getting the bulk discount!
Has anyone fed the Hi-Standard dog food? A dealer I used to get dog food from has been selling it for a couple years now and claims it is really good, and for a decent price. But I would appreciate some opinions from houndmen who have used it.

I have feed the Black Gold 26/18 for a long time. It is supposed to be going up in price. Another houndsman in the area, that had been feeding Black Gold, started mixing the Hi-Standard 26/18 with the Black Gold and then switched to all Hi-Standard. He saw no difference in his dogs. The last week, I have been mixing Black Gold with Hi-Standard and plan on only getting Hi-Standard the next time I buy dogfood.

Yes I would like to know about the High Standard product as well. I spent some time visiting with Doug Johnson of Soap Creek Kennels the Rep. for High Standard yesterday and it seems like a lot of hound hunters on the Wasatch fron are using it as well as those around Fuita, Grand Junction and Montrose. He saif the 24/20 works very well for high energy dogs. He competeds in Gun Dog competitions all over. He said he use to rep Black Gold and the product made in Ogden was a very good product but the same product made in the Tupelo, Ms. facility was inferior in protien quality and freshness.

He asked be to evaluate it which I will and if found satisfactory in value I will check on the palate rates.

Commnets please..
