Here' an update on the meeting. I will start with the text of my speech and my girlfriend Lorry's speech and then give you some of the unbelievable responses we got from the comission. My speech: I am here to address the recent acceptance of a donation to the K9 division and Cal-TIP from the Humane Society of the United States. The HSUS is no friend of California's hunters. Here are some quotes from Wayne Pacelle, the president of HSUS: " If we could shut down all sport hunting in a moment, we would." "Our goal is to get sport hunting in the same category as cock fighting and dog fighting" "We are going to use the ballot box and the democratic process to stop all hunting in the United States...We will take it species by species until all hunting is stopped in California. Then we will take it state by state" (last quote Full Cry Oct. 90)
When I read that Nancy Foley, Fish and Game's chief of law enforcement was quote: "...very grateful for the support from the Humane Society of the United States for our efforts to combat the scourge of poaching and look forward to developing a lasting partnership." It shocked me into action and that is why I am here today, to hopefully stop the HSUS in its' tracks. I respectfully request the commission, at its' August meeting, to place on the agenda a motion to return the donations and reject all future donations from the HSUS and groups like it. When news of this donation reached the web the backlash and outrage was immeadiate, and continues to grow daily. I have recieved emails and calls from as far away as Louisiana and Oklahome offering support and donations. The issue is going to recieve national press coverage in the" hunting community in the very near future and hopefully will result in the full funding of the K9 division by groups with an interest in the future of hunting and not its' abolishment. Thank you." Some responses from the commissioners:
" I think some of your comments may be ill concieved" "It may be tainted money, but it 'taint enough." Regarding the K9 division "Those dogs were all taken from pounds" "The HSUS is very dedicated to not just throwing away animals." Don't forget to read part 2

The anti hunting folks are sneakin in the back door. Soon we will have open anti hunters on the comission board. As soon as it happens its all over. What can we do? I think the best way to promote our sport is pure propoganda like the antis are using. Market our sport as the "only catch and release" hunting. Where else in hunting does the hunter have the option to be successful and not make a kill. Most of the houndsman I know dont kill much of the game they tree or bay. What do you think? Am I way off?

heres what I sent to all those commision members via email ................. I just discovered that the dfg has accepted a donation from the humane society. Im speechless. The humane society has been outspoken on their anti hunting position. While their donation may be benifitial in the short term to the dfg it is hardly a bedfellow for what hunters, fisherman and the dfg stand for. I discovered this through other hunters who were equally upset by this. The anti hunting/animal activists groups have us out numbered in this state and outfunded. We hold you as the protectors of our resource and these sports. At this point little physical damage has been done, but the damage in the eyes the hunter and fisherman by dfg for thier acceptance of this donation has run deep. pleas reconsider any further dealings with any group that dosent promote, participate, or protect the outdoor sports we all consider our pastime. thankyou.
