Here is a bigin for the books, My hunting partner Roger (sureshot) and Ernie were up hunting on the permits we had this spring. I had called him earlyier in the day and he had got on a rat bear and lost it. they decidded to hunt more Roger had gone one way and ernie went the other way after they had got this bear going the bear ended up turning and baying up and came towards roger. The bear got across the road on him and dogs not far behind roger had one shot and one shot only. He was shooting a 45-70gov. and threw the timber at 75,to 80 yards and hit the big basterd in the spine and it was over the bullet was recoverd latter at the base of the neck. rogers 2 blue dogs and ernies 2 plott dogs were used to harvest this big son-of a b!@#$.

What did he end up weighing?

dressed at 400 pounds even

Not too bad, do you have any better shots? Like full body shots or ones out in the field maybe?

here is one from the meat locker the next day, buy the time he got a winch and help to get it out he was tired and ready for bed lol.
he wishes he could have got some with the dogs, but it was 11 pm by the time he got it out and loaded

Meat locker said it was 303# . That is gutted no feet no head or hide ect. that is hanging meat.
They think it will be close to 21 1/2

Is shooting a bear while crossing the road fair chase? I know you do what you do to kill bears on the permits but I don't see the point in bragging about it. The dogs didn't catch it. They just made enough noise and someone was smart enough to know where the bears cross to whack one. Again, I know permits are a different story than most guys have but there are plenty of bears being CAUGHT that are just as big or bigger. Now thats something to talk about.
