Skunk Smell Help

Well one of my boys decided that he needed to take care of a skunk the other day and I can't seem to get the smell off the collars. The home remedy bath I gave him worked pretty good and I even washed the collars in it and took all replacable items off the collars and discarded. I can't seem to get the smell off of the Tracking collar. Any ideas besides replacing the collar?

Thanks

Try white wine vinegar, it takes the smell of diesel fuel out of my clothes.

Nothing will get all the smell out no matter what or how much you try and wash it. Just hang it up for a month outside. It will eventually loose all the smell but it takes time.

Hey thanks for all the great tips. I will offer up what worked for me. A guy in our Bear camp used to hunt coons and his hounds got into skunks all the time. He said to spray the collars with WD40 and it will displace the skunk smell. Well when I got home I sprayed the brass rivets on my name plate where the smell had seeped into the collar itself. I then let it sit overnight and this morning no more skunk smell. I couldn't believe it but it worked. Of course can't do that to a dog but it worked great on the tracking collar.

Yeah the smell grew on me but convincing the wife that it's just part of hunting hounds is the real challenge. Took the dogs out to the creek yesterday and still no smell on that collar though.

Thanks again
