We had a question about favorite rifles, lets have one on favorite pistols.

I have 3 Colt Python 357 nichol plated with 6 in. barrel
Colt Diamond back blue with 6 in. barrel in .22 cal
Colt SAA 7 1/2 in barrel blue, case hardened in 44-40 cal.
Would like to have another Diamond back 6" barrel in .38 special if anyone has one.

Kimber ultra carry II - stainless/titanium- 21 ounces - 45auto w/ 180 gr remington golden saber - +p velocity for lion and 230gr reduced velocity, semi-wadcutter target load for bobs.

David, is that SAA an original?

Well I can't Say all the Critters that have bit the dust with this .22 .. Some 150#ers up to a Steer at 20 yards .. They may have not been with a single shot eather .. But I have never Lost one with it ..

And I'am a horable Shot with a hand gun !! But this one is magic .. Even before I put the Scope on it ...

My favorite is any thing blackhawk, Big or Small caliber, Long or short! .. Just something about pullin that hammer back and lettin it rip..

During season, I carry a little mark III .22 in my pack mostly because it's stainless and I'll actually aim it, Where the Blackhawks I tend to just point and shoot! ..

i like my taurus 44 it has a 6 1/2" vented barrel. i have only used it for hogs but plan on carrying it as a side arm this bear season.

ruger blackhawk in 41. mag. Always on my side when hog doggin. its 10 years old. Holster wear has buffed the blueing almost all the way off. It looks like its been through hell. Ive dunked it in the mud accidently a few times. Hose it down every once in a while with Break Free and it has never failed me. I am a shitty shot however.

Thats exactly what I carry/use! Mine is equipped with a really sharp pair of damascus steel grips made by my buddy @ yukon forge....I'll have to send over a picture of it...or, go to www.yukonforgecustoms.com and look at the Kimber Ultra Carry II on the site...she's mine

Never thought about damascus grips, are they checkered? My good friend is a custom gun/knife maker/engraver and is messing with some damascus right now. I will have to check out those grips.

RUGER VAQUERO 7 1/2 INCH 44 MAG. GOES EVERYWHERE AND DOES MOST THINGS AS WELL AS I CAN MAKE IT.ALSO HAVE A GERMAN MADE 22 MAG I'M QUITE FOND OF SHOOTING.

My all time favorite is the Hand gun that the greatest trophy jaguar hunter of all times favored as well. Tony De Almeida the man that wrote the book (Jaguar Hunting in the Matto Grosso and Patanal) said no other handgun would ever hold up to the day after day dunkings in mud and water in the steamy South American jugles and still be ready to stop the charge of huge jaguar at close range. Tony had access to any gun he wanted and tried many of them but the Smith and Wesson Model 66 Combat Magnum 4" 357 Magnum was his personal choice.

Tony by the way had to dispatch some very large near 300 pound jaguars that had been wounded by clients whose guns would become non-functional after the first shot. He made so much history in the countries for Brazil and Bolivia for the Smith and Wesson revolvers that he said a man could take one down there and trade it for anything you could want. Horses, cattle, or even a beautiful wife.LOL!

I have used numerous revolvers and pistols over the years but this one remains a favorite. Compact, accurate and dependable. I throw it in the collar bag and carry it in a shoulder rig and seldom worry about it. It goes bang everytime you pull the trigger.

As most know however I do not favor any handgun as the weapon of choice when it comes to bear or lion hunting. A short compact rifle is a much better choice for a primary weapon because you never know what kind of a mess you are going to get into. I have seen even very competant hand gun shooters get excited in the heat of a battle and botch a shot that cost a peron a big vet bill, or possibly a dead hound.

In those times when you need an accurate deadly shot at 50 yards or more when a hound may be face to face on a bad bluff or in a situation where you can't get closer. Hearts are racing, pulse elevated and it is very easy to miss the mark with a handgun I have even see guys shoot their own dogs. I pack my Smith for those times when i have to do a clean up and that is generally pretty dang close.

A classic example happened to me bear hunting some years ago. I had a man with me that claimed to be one heck of a bear hunter, dog man and pistolero. He could talk the talk and talk it pretty fast. Well his dogs were the first clue that he might have been $HITTING ME JUST A LITTLE. The were out of shape and after the first strike my dogs were nearly out of hearing and these were still wandering around wetting the bushes and they were content to follow us. Well it was a pretty long race but my dogs ended up treeing this average boar in a ponderosa pine. We get up there and first thing one of his dogs that was following us trys to run in and start a tree fight. Well i made him tie them back. Well I had 5 hound there and the bear was settled and not up very high. I said let me tie my dogs back if you want to shoot him. Ok and so I was going about tieing my dogs. Well I had three of them tied and was getting the other two and BOOM! he lets of with this big old 10 1/2" barreled Super Black Hawk 44 magnum. Holy $hit! I turned around and he was froze in place I looked up and the bear started down and I mean quick.Well he had hit the bear but not in a vital spot. Well next thing i knew the bear landed right in front of me and i was blocking his path so he jumped right on me. Well i went down kicking and trying to roll away and the two dogs i had were necked together with a double coupler lead and they tore into the bear and i got away and grabbed my Smith and had just got to my knees when he was face to face with me and he was pissed. I just shoved it out there and pulled the trigger. Well lucky for me i hit him right in the middle of the neck and broke his spine and he fell over.

Well it was quite a rodeo and learned a valuable lesson or two or three. First BS can get you hurt, and second don't ever turn your back on a bs'r with a loaded gun, and third a gut shot bear with a 44 magnum is still a gut shot bear.

Whew!...and I'm thinking number four was a life altering experience.

I'm with bigbaorstopper the .41 mag good accurate gun (and with the right reloads can rival big brother .44 with less reciol and grouping. JMO)

Well im a fan of the big .44 mag. mine is a Ruger Super BlackHawk. But sometimes its a little too heavy so I will just carry my smith and wesson snub nose .38. I also carry a .22 colt pre-woodsmen.
