Shoulder rig is the only way to go for me. Hip holsters look good but if you walk a long ways or ride a horse or even get in and out of the truck they are a pain in the hip. LOL! Also they can mess up your back over time.
Colder weather I wear mine under a vest to protect it from dirt and elements. And you sure don't want you gun getting full of snow and freezing up because that can really get messy. I had an old hunting partner from California who carried a 218 bee Thompson Center Contender. He had a piece of sash cord tied to a ring in the butt and he just slipped it in the pocket of his bib overalls. Well we caught this big lion one real cold day and he had slipped and went down a couple of times and there was some snow and he got it in the action. Well you guessed it. It went off the first time and it was a bit off the mark but it knocked him out and he hit the ground full of fight. Well we had some tore up dogs cuz that gun would not shoot again.

Shoulder for sure...but here in CO you can get crosswise with the law in hurry if you have it under your jacket w/out a concealed weapons permit...especially if you forget to take it off when paying for gas!

Hip all the way for me.
Never liked shoulder hosters but do they do have a few advantages of keeping your gun out of the elements when hunting

i like a thigh rig, used to carry on my hip but the butt of my rifle would smack it while hiking if my rifle was slung over my sholder. havn't looked into to may sholder rigs as they all seem real pricy to me but im making more $$$$ these days so it may be time to shop more.

I like a shoulder set up, seems to be a little more out of the way under the wing.

I did the saddle bag thing once. We got on a hot lion chase. Lion went in a boulder pile. I jumped off the mule had my buddy take it around and I went on foot. Dogs bayed the lion in the boulder pile, getn torn up pretty good I jumped up there and reached for my ol trusty to save a few dogs and OH FU$# THE MULE GOTS IT!!!
On my hip ever since.
Hopefully your smarter than me and wont forget!! LOL

On the hip, 41 magnum ruger, I prefer the shoulder holster however but in california the weather is always different so I would have the shoulder holster under or over the sweatshirt/jacket as the weather permitted. Then I would run and then be to hot. Take off the Back pack to take off the shoulder holster and then the sweatshirt/jacket. Back and forth, never finding a happy medium between cold and hot. I gave up. Its on the hip. Teeshirt, vest, jacket or parka dosent matter.
