Go to the "Big Game Hunting with Dogs" section and look for the same post as this one on page one and page four. The one on page four has several pages of responses.

Funny, I just saw a couple dvds of his (I believe) 3 bear kennels at my buddies a few mins ago. He was raving about these dogs on this dvd so I had to see.
Says he wants to get one "so bad !"

Lots of the bears didnt tree, whether thats from being run so often or they just dont like to tree down there, I dont know.

That being said none of them quit and several got chomped on pretty good.
I think his vet bills would be half if he ran half as many dogs... Seems like the majority that got tagged on camera only got caught because other dogs were in the way of their escape from the charging bear. Guess thats how they like to do it.
They all treed well and I didnt see one squabble on a dead bear (there must of been 20+ dogs on some of them!)

From what a guy could see they do what bear dogs should do.

Never knew the bears stripped trees like that there, tree farmers/reforestation Co's must be right pissed.

I asked Mike why so many dogs. I told him the same thing, that it looked like way to many dogs. Like you said, the only reason the dogs got chomped or swatted seemed to be other dogs in the way of their escape. Mike told me that those bears over in WA need lots of pressure or they are hard to get up.

I never met Mike, and havn't hunted with any of his dogs. Ihave heard some bad, but more good about them. No line is perfect. IMO if 3 good bear dogs can't put him up, it is time to start looking for better dogs. There are always exceptions to every rule. I have wittnessed a single "bear dog" tree more bears alone, than 6-8 cheerleaders.
There are dogs that will not run a bear under any condition. There are those that will run as long as the bear will run, but not one step more. There are those that will run a bear and bay all day from a safe distance, and then there are "bear dogs", that know what to do when when the going gets tough and will do it with, or without help. I owned "one" of those dogs once, and have been have been looking for another one like him for 15 years now.

I know guys that have some dogs out of Mike's stuff and they are fast. I have personally never owned one but this what the three guys I know say about them and what I have seen hunting with them. They are usually great bay dogs and fast track driving dogs, some turn out to be rig dogs but most dont, and it takes a long time and a lot of work to get most of them to tree. But they are usually always infront of the pack and not afraid of a mean bear. One of the dogs I know runs everyday, never slips a pad, and only gets time off when she is healing up from being bit. They are usually very shy and don't like strangers. I know that a lot of awesome dogs come from mike, it is just a money issue for most, but it is just like everything else you get what you pay for!

Boy those Washington bears a legendary when it comes to treeing. It seems that only a good pack of hellhounds are capable of putting them up consistantly. I guess those tough bers stay south of the 49th.

I'm curious to hear who the man that defines "fast" is ?

I'd be willing to bet there'd be a day some guys think their dogs are "fast" and that is the day they get schooled and left behind by the next guys definition of fast

Then theres the "fast" dogs who line it out first because they're "fastest" off the line but make the tree 2nd to last because the ones with endurance were really "fastest" overall.
So whos actually "fast" now and which "fast" is better ?? :beer

Most generally the better faster is a dog that a man defines with speed and fastness in a blistering way like a cheetah or a humming bird with the ability to bay game like those hunting dogs from Africa and can actually get to the tree before the quarry picking a nice one with just a few fat limbs. You got it Stalker?

I have a dog that consistantly runs in first divisions in swim and field trials. He does not get out ran when i bear hunt him with other dogs. But those running dogs that come from mike run past him like he is standing still, i was impressed

All the man was tryin to say was that the running hound in them gives them some more foot. There aint nothin wrong with tellin the truth.
