dedeaux26,
I don't know who Waylon is, but he sure has not hunted with Dad if he says we hunt our hounds like Coyote Hounds!(no offense Mr. Dan about Yote Hunters)
Dad has not wanted a treedog since he turned 70 as we finally convinced him that he was too damn old to be trying to go to a tree by himself. Since my wife and I have moved back to take care of he and Mom we have acquired a little treedog that is getting better and better and now has some of the Clay Hounds treeing. Running Walkers will tree when shown that this is what they need to do!
Where do you live and hunt and I will try to direct you to a Cat hunter close to you. The best way to get a Cat dog is to go hunt with someone, if they like you they will let you have one or help you find one. Cat Hounds hard to find, good ones harder to find, good ones for sale are non existent.
The best place to look would be around Jessup GA. There are more Grey Fox/Bobcat Hunters there than anywhere else.
Hope this helps!

PS I don't know if Dads hounds are any good but during the month of August we treed 26(looked at more than a few)Bobcat and caught 6 on the ground!

Dads Dogboy...sorry everyone not trying to highjack the post. But I'm curious do you have any idea what the population density of cats is where you guys hunt. I know you hunt alot, I used to think the central coast here was loaded but it seems like that part of the country must have it beat. It sure must be fun, here where I live we are lucky to hunt hard and find one a week.
And as far as the best cat dogs...oh yeah I'd have to agree, just ask that guy that drove by with the dog box...I'm sure he's got'em! All kidding aside it does depend on where and how you want to hunt, get local dogs that produce.

no i have not hunted with finney clay, i have had the ocassion to visit with him over the phone 3 or 4 years ago several times, he did not say he hunted them like coyote hunters i just said that because when he told me he did not want a tree dog he wanted them to catch them on the ground it sounded like coyote hunting we do here in Osage county, running them down until they stop to fight or die trying. I was not trying to come across like we were ol buddies or imply anything other than what i gathered from him. I do however know he had or has if he still hunts some of the best cat hounds around because some folks i knew that did hunt with him before said so and there word was as good as gold. My apoligies if you thought different and my opion is simply that opion. with all that being said have a good ride and keep your powder dry

I won't say that he has the best bobcat dog in the southwest but bobby and tommy farmer have the best bobcat dogs I've seen. Not only the best bobcat dogs but the best all around dogs. Whatever they get put on they catch. And they have plenty of them. Most people have one lead dog, these guys have five or six lead dogs. I'm sure their are better dogs out there I just havet seen them.

Folks,
Waylon thanks for the PM, as I said my response was more as a dig to Mr. Dan's Yote hunters. Most Cat hunters would rather be accused of voting for Obama than be called a Yote Runner!
LizOdell, the studies that we have read, and somewhere on here I posted a link to it, states that here in this part of FL, we probably have two Sow Cat per section and a Tom per every two sections. Our research indicates that when the Pine Plantations are the right size that number might be low! We might have the desity that they normally have in South Tx with 4 Sows per section and One Tom per section and a half. The rabbit cycle is @ its peak right now, when it falls the Cat numbers will drop.
dedeaux26, you need to talk to Harold Parker @ Sumerall, MS for info and to learn about the game. Aother hunter is Gerald Page in the Poplarville area. It is a tough game to play but there are folks that will help a serious individual!

Mr. Dan,
I wished that I had had you, your mule, and damn sure my mule this morning!
We ran a Big Tom up and down an SMZ about 450 yds from the road. The SMZ was surrounded by Pine Plantations about head high. We could have stayed right with them and not gotten as wet as I did walking into them!
What no CB on your saddle? You dont have you laptop mounted with your Garmin on the Saddle Horn? No Sat. Phone in the Saddle bags? You must come into the 21st Century Mr. Dan.
I will watch my language and not refer to you as a "Yote Hunter" but as a "Hound and Mule" Man Extroidanaire!
