The hound season started today in Maine and I was lucky enough to get on a fat one right off the bat.It ran a little less than 2 miles. They walked it awhile and bayed it up in some blow downs. It was an old sow with some teeth missing, and what teeth were still there were realy worn. The dogs on the bear today were Rooster ,Gunner, Willy and Alley.

Thanks guys.I paid for that good luck today.I treed a porcupine and ran a swamp donkey.LOL Like I always say when your guiding, one day your a hero and the next day your a zero.LOL For some reason I can't change the date on my camera I change it and it just goes back to 01/01/05.I showed a bunch of my dogs on here on my training season post so I didn't want to repeat, but I would be glad to show them on this post.I'll do better dads dogboy. LOL Bartamenko,I you'se some English dogs and some mixed dogs that I have bred.I try to breed the best to the best,a mix of Plott, English.Borderpond ,the baits are still getting hit pretty good.My bait hunters did well I only had 2 guy's that didn't see a bear and they were'nt real serious hunters. No big bears on bait though.

Still got a lot of natural food left out there? Those big ones are always nocturnal unless they make a mistake

We got another one today,we should of shot it at 8 oclock this mourning walking across the road in front of us but the hunter didn't shoot.Gunner and Wille walked it all day and they kept stoping it but every time we would try to get in and shoot it would bust out.I put Rooster in about noon time and we managed to get in and shoot it at 2 0clock.The hunter was a 15 year old boy and he made a great shot and put the bear down as the dogs were baying it.The bear weighed 254 live wieght.

Gunner and Rooster and the hunter.

Good job, nice bear. Talked to Nelson Cole, he has 5 killed so far. He said the baits are getting hit pretty hard, lots of bear this season.

We treed a nice one yesterday,it was a nice run about 5 miles,Rooster had to swim on the cold trail across a swamp to keep it going. My 2 Lightfoot dogs Bonnie and Clyde, did a real nice job, they lead the race for a while and Bonnie who is just a year old, treed real hard.We heard the dogs catch the bear and then tree it.Wille was also on this one.

This was the bear in the tree.It was real thick around the tree so it was hard to get a good picture.

Rooster, Clyde,Bonnie and wille.

The hunter and his bear.
