1 testical

Today I noticed that my 17 mouth old dog has only 1 testical. I felt around and couldn't feel anything in his abdoman. I'm not saying it isn't in there and won't drop but, I just couldn't feel it. I know that in humans this can happen and it's where the hole that allows the testical to drop into the sack just isn't there and a doctor can open that up and make it drop. Could a vet do that with my dog or if he turns out to only have 1 testical and I want to breed him will he still be able to produce?

Ive got two dogs that only had one nut drop. They usually have the other one stuck up inside them and it just never works its way down. A true cryptorchid is pretty rare where they are just born with one nut. Its disqualifying for showing dogs and true one nutters shouldnt be bred into a good program but yes both can produce just like any other. But sometimes those dogs can get agro and they have a much higher risk of cancer at an earlier age because their other nut temperature is too high up inside their body. The vets say you should wait until at least a year for the other to drop and sometimes you can massage it out. Lay him down and feel for it with your fingers other either side of his peter way up there. You can probably feel it up in there (I know its gross to touch his peter but this is one time its ok) and see if you can work it out in a week of doing this every day for a few minutes. If not, I would take him in and get him cut but remember its like getting a female spayed so plan on him being down for a couple weeks. Hope this helps and good luck!

I'm not sure that I'm understand what you mean by "cut"? I don't want him "cut" and not able to breed. If they "cut" him will he be steral?

He has a way higher risk of getting cancer if you don't do the surgery and it is a genetic flaw you shouldn't want to pass on.

Couple weeks? Shoot, I had 2 done Friday............Picked them up yesterday morning...Take the female in next Friday to have stitches removed and can run her later in the day. Male has disposable stitches.
Not sure if your vet does the procedure different, but recovery downtime the way my vet does the spay or neuter is 1 week.

Cuttings means neutered.....so yes a cut dog can not breed.
