I have to say every dog I ran this year met or exceeded my expectations. If your looking for something more than what you already have, you may want to try a nance bred dog I'm sure glad I was turned on to them. Thanks to all those that made this summer and fall possible.

Andy I stand corrected about those two topper dogs I have out here. They are comming around very well and they even worked a bobcat track in the rocks yesterday when the temp was in the high eighties. I think they were just kennel stail at first. Thanks James G. Moore

The trailer dog is realy comming around, He as gotten hard and is supper gritty, he seems to be every bit as good as the drifter dog witch i was told was the better dog. they seem to have equal noses and i personaly like the handle on the trailer dog better. they are both good handling dogs at this point. The trash thing seems to have gone away witch tells me they they were just bored when i got them. I like both dogs. I like those little yearlings better. but they are easier to mold because they are younger. both those topper dogs will make jeff or somebody fine dogs. I will say that the drifter dog seems to push a track better. but they are close. I have realy enjoyed the oppertunity to hunt these dogs.

HDH I own a littermate to those dogs. She is doin awesone. I used to hunt those two a little but they guy that owned them gave them more kennel time than anything. As for nose i always thought drifter was a little bit better I dropped him on a two day old like track and he screamed it all they way to the tree. But ill agee trailer does handle much better. Looks like you got them goin pretty dang good glad to hear they are bein hunted like they should be. Andy the topper dogs are headed back to jeff here shortly. Wish they were staying for the winter and I could see what kind of bobcat dogs they realy could be. these dogs and my dogs won't see anymore bear this year, well atleast not intentionally.I have a number of bobs in my mind that I want my dogs to see this year, and I plan on hunting 6 days a week starting around the first of october. there will be alot of night hunting at first but as things cool off it should get real interesting. I have one of jeffs old strain dogs and one nance dog that are ready to go right now. They are pritty savy young dogs so I bet they do good this winter. I have that little nance male from jeff that just turned 3 months and i bet he gets quite a bit of hunting this winter too. Should be a good year for dogs both young and old. Sounds like they are doing very well for you. I have three dogs out of Topper Again two males who are littermates coming 3 and a female out of a different mother who is coming two.These dogs are similar in build and actions although the females were quite different. The two males mother was mainly Yadkin and Loose Bruce breeding and the females mother was heavy Nance and about 1/4 House.They all started very early trailing and making lion trees before a year and were easy to handle. The males have very loud long bawl mouthes on track one is hard chop on the tree and they other has a quivering bawl locate and a short bawl on the wood. The female is a squall mouthed track dog and a sharp chop on the tree.They all seem to wind a track very well but one of the males the bawl mouthed tree dog really can drift a track fast, the other male is more of a track pounder but he seldom loses the line. The female is blistering fast and a very active hunter, more so than the males although they are busy.

I have been impressed with their ability to strike and move colder tracks but I never could really gauge them against each other for the tops in that ability. I have two older males that are out of some of Jeff Allens older dogs Hank and Ace breeding and they have always done well on bare ground as have some others that I owned from him that have passed on. I trailed a female lion Sunday and although it was only possible 12 hour old track they were on clay a lot and not much vegitation. I will say they 3 Topper dogs flat out struck, out trailed and pretty much left the vetrans in the dust. The older dogs were trailing fine and not crawling along but the 3 dogs i described flat smoked the track and even though mounted on horses we couldn't stay anywhere close to them. So i would say they have good speed, and handle the warm weather very well. I haven't had any foot problems with them but i spend a lot of time legging dogs up on horseback so they might have an edge on dogs that are dropped out of a truck on a hard running track.

All in all what I have seen i would say Topper Again is a reproducer of lion dogs with very good ability. The females are important however and no stud dog regardless of how great he reproduces can carry the whole load.

I'm getting dissy trying to fallow who has the trailer and drifter dog. These dogs are my dog's dad and grand dad so I'm interested in hearing about thier doings. I haven't been able to get mine on any big game and we don't have sh!t for coons, but he made me proud on the drags I have set up for him.

Mike, would it have played out the same way had the track been much older and colder? Do you think these nance dogs are as good as the old strain stuff when it comes to catching lions in the dirt? Not trying to put you on the spot but your the only guy that I know who hunts both other than jeff.
Sawtooth, I have both the drifter and trailer dog out here with me. Jeff sold the trailer dog and he will be getting shiped out soon, and I think that drifter dog is headed back to jeff.

As to your question I beleive after observing these dogs on a number of tracks and conditions they have as much nose and perserverence as the old strain dogs, and better speed for the most part. The only variable I can't attest to yet is their durability. I haven't had any real probelms but the older strain really shined when you had multiple days of hard trailing. Should be able to answer that part here pretty soon when regular season kicks in and we can hit it hard.

Mike, I ran the tar out of those dogs this year day in and day out, they got thin but it was the good kind of thin the hard hound that we all want in our pack. no feet problems other than a little tenderness at first but it went away quick. I havn't been running mine because I didn't want to put them on any bear,but i got them on a bob the other day and i'm headed out for some more bobs here in an hour or so. just night hunting till it cools off.
