Just wanting to know how much everyone is feeding their dogs during hunting season and during the off season. I hunted with a friend the other day and he fed his hounds about twice as much as I was feeding mine. Just wondering if i'm not feeding enough..

Thanks everyone.

I've seen the same thing, in the off season mine get 2 cups and when I'm hunting them hard they get about 3 cups a day. Mike

All depends on the dog. My redtick female gets 2 1/2 cups a day. At 3 cups she gets a little fat and at 2 cups she starts showing a little rib. My bluetick gets 3 1/2 but he's still growing. In the winter I'll throw in another 1/2 to 2/3 cups of raw meat from the scraps I get from the butcher.

This is one that can't have a definite answer since all dogs are different, some can stand more food and not get too fat while some can take all you give them and not get over weight. Go by the way the dogs ribs and gut looks to you. I am for too thin, within reason, than too heavy. Way easier on the dog and you will see better results from your dog when it is lighter and still getting proper nutrition.

As stated before, all dogs are different. Mine get about 2 - 2 1/2 cups right now, but will go up to about double that when we're hunting hard and it gets cold over here.

I am personally doing 2 1/2 cups per dog right now, but like said in the earlier post, my friend was feeding his dogs around 5 cups. They didn't look out of shape but just seemed like way to much. I have raised labs that don't eat that much.. And they are over 80lbs and dont hunt half as hard. Also I feed my dogs Black Gold Performance dog food.

Close to five cups when we are going realy hard 6 or seven days per week and humping snow all day. closer to four in the summer and we are hunting everyday. I think a hound should have some rib and hip showing jmo, never seen a marathon runner with any fat or extra muscle. This is however a fine line not to be crosed to light and your dog will suffer. Any good hound guy knows what a hard hound should look like. jmo

My dogs with any more than 2.5 will get fat. Thats just because i only run them about 3 or so times a week. And unfortunately we dont always find a track to take. But I make sure to at least road them for a few miles each time out. Come winter I step it up to 4 cups. Thanks all and happy hunting. I Gotto go find a fresh track..

I feel kinda like the odd man out here, but mine get all they will eat every day, hunting or not. I feed Exclusive and they will eat about 2 cups in the off season and around 3 when being hunted as hard as I can hunt them. I leave food in their dish at all times.
They seem to keep just above their ribs showing. They are far from fat though.

usually 2-3 cups. It really depends on what my budget looks like. I try to buy dog food that dosent have corn as the first ingredient. Corn is usually the first ingredient in cheaper dog foods and has less nutrition and more filler. I can buy more expensive food and feed them much less and they will be able keep the weight on.

What would your suggestion be for a hound 4 months to 1 year old?
also if changing brands do you phase it in the new feed or not ??

My bluetick is almost 5 months and he is getting 3 1/2 cups (8 oz.) a day. I'm not real worried about him getting fat. He has so much energy and is growing so fast I try to keep plenty in front of him.
