Rough Start for Cat season

Cat pursuit season has been open for a couple weekends now. Seams I've had a good Run of Bad luck.

Went camping on the first weekend with a good friend ( URE on here) , and first thing in the morning the truck just went south, and I had to pull out the White flag and limp to town to try and repair it in the rain, I kinda figured out it was an injector wiring problem and that I wasn't going to fix it on the road. So I did what any respectable hound guy would do and I begged and pleaded my friend for his Second truck, and continued hunting.. Didn't have any luck, not a bark or a tail wag that weekend.. (although he did tree a cat while I was in town wrenching :? what an a-hole.. ..)

Left the camper and towed the truck home The next weekend I was tearing apart my truck and replacing the injector wireing harness.. Got everything fixed and when I was plugging back in my Tuner Chip, I reckon I forgot to turn the key off in the truck... and Blew up the Engine control Module. which wasn't very Cheap to replace...

Anyways, this weekend we made it back to the camper, and made a hunt out of the weekend.

Finally got to Hear a Good race yesterday and it was a good way to get some dogs tuned up and in shape!, It's amazing how one good race makes it worth all the trouble. Minus the hike into the bottom of a hell hole to find the dogs were ledged up and couldn't make it through except one miracle dog which I still don't know how she did it.. I was wishing that I brought a rope or leash or something to help me climb back up those rocks, although I'm not sure if I would have tried to hang myself down there, or use it to climb out of there!! At one point, I do remeber thinking... What the hell is that white chalk stuff that all those Rock climbers always dip their hands in on the movies?? Sure could have used some of that stuff yesterday! :D

Good times, Good Friends and my dogs didn't appear to want any trash races (that's a pretty big Miracle in it's self!) .. So I'm hopeful for the season..

Thanks again to Don, for allowing us to come down and hunt together, we always have a good time!

I will tell you how she does it. She will go 5 miles to go around bluffs if she has to. She has done this many times before. Often times she goes on to catch the cat on her own.

I told you that I knew of a cat that would put the dogs to the stone....I want a picture of that cat this year!!! I'm going back Saturday and try again.

As always it was great to see you guys.

And thanks again for letting me turn in on your track. I have not forgotten who's dog started the track.

Buddyw,

Good to hear that you all can get after them now!

Keep us psted as to how you all are doing, if you exercise the sneaky Sow Cat you wrote me about, be sure and tell us all about the Race.

Good Luck with your truck, you are frotunate to be able to fix it yourself, all I can do is turn the key, if it don't fire I have to call for help!

comes in three's huh.. I can't count but I think I'm on like 6 or 7.. So I should be due for some kinda luck

Don, I think we were just shocked that we started one before you.. That's never happened before! We were just Holding our breath for Penny to bark and give us the approval. She is a neat dog to watch and learn from. :D

John, we can't get to that cat yet, Everything is still gated up due to fire restrictions, but the cat from yesterday definately knew what a Dog Bark was, and knew what and where to go and how to get there. We ran her last year and man it was a good show, That cat probably came and ran a circle about 40 yards around us last year.. She Did allot of the same things this time And a couple of them would have fooled the dogs. One nice thing with the Garmin was we could keep up better and see some of the Tricks that stumped the dogs.. One of which she walked through a water Culvert, That would have been the end of my race if it were not for Don's Penny dog who went through and figured it out. Hind sight I wish I would have sent my dogs through the culvert so they would have learned it and maybe next time they'd remember it.

But really I kinda enjoy those cats more than the ones that I can catch easy! I guess it's just the challenge of it.

Buddyw,

Ain't it neat watching the action on the Garmin!

Dad has me doing the "Howard Cosell" bit, calling the Action and telling what each dog is doing!

It makes the Race a full sensory activity!
