Re: Dogs,Dogs,Dogs

Interesting topic, I can say over the years my patience has come and gone and come back I guess and settled with what works for me is two seasons but have to make sure you give the dog as much opportunity as your favorite dog. The reasons I choose two is a few reasons. One is because if you start no...

Re: Non res hound hunting

Wisconsin got rid of the hound permit can train as long as the season is open, but the tag is draw, doesn't matter residents or nonresident. The farther east ya go most don't have a hound permit that I recall but require a hunting license and tag for nonresidents to train or hunt during their season...

Re: What type of gun do you carry with you hunting?

I run with a 45-70 Henry lever action. Open sights no scope. Not exactly a light gun to carry but can take a beating and make it count. It is usually always in the truck but really only brought out if someone needs it or asked to be back up.

Re: What's your longest race?

Well it has been a couple years but had a few go over 27 miles if I recall and didn't catch or tree the bear kept pulling a bigger gap. That also was losing service from time to time to get around so it could have been more. But I guess this year I would say our average is pretty much the same as yo...

Re: What’s the deal???

I agree it has been slow on the forum lately but hunting seasons/training seasons have started or about to start so some people could be busy but can't speak for everyone. Also, I think some form of social media in one way or another has taken the place of what forums used to be. I am definitely not...

Re: Opening day!

From what I read yes nonresidents can run if they get a hound permit but you had to apply for it by March 25th or the end of March. The kill season runs until the 25th of May but then the training season goes the 26th-15th or so of June. Also seems like there is some nonresident training license quo...

Re: training to improve cold trailing?

I guess my theory on this topic is you can't create a cold nose they either have it or not. But you can teach a dog to use its nose or trail. The best way i have found to help benefit the dog in the trailing is fresh snow. You can walk the dog down the track and praise it and keep putting it back on...

Re: Making a silent dog

I got a pup from a cross that the father was semi silent on track and mother I would say was average mouth on track not babbling but pretty vocal. Well the litter from my knowledge has all been more silent than even the father. I have only hunted with one of the littermates so going off what the bre...

Re: Montana HB 468 Black Bear with hounds

Well if they don't change the rules they put in place for nonresidents a few years ago to run dogs on lion in that state they give out 50 nonresidents hound permits a year that you have to apply for like a lottery like idaho. But the difference is I think you have to buy the lion tag before you can ...

Re: Let’s talk.

Snow shoes are a good idea but depending on the snow conditions sometimes they are more of a headache than a benefit. If you got just crust and snow like sand you will sink with them on just like boots just more work to pull them out.
