Re: Making a loss

How long of a time period are you considering a loss? As in overrun one corner and make it back to the track on the first loop is a loss? Or a loss where everybody stops and takes 5 minutes to figure it out loss? Our bear dogs will overrun a corner and lip right back on to it a fair amount but never...

Re: Let’s talk.

For what it's worth (not much) our country isn't too rough but I've found I don't need to put anything on their feet. I will start roading small distances on a gravel road about 2 months before season. If I start slow and work up I never have a problem whether I'm putting stuff on their feet or not....

Re: Let’s talk.

8 or 10 days right in the middle of Sept. Not exactly sure on all the dates.

Re: Let’s talk.

Treed today on the last day I could go in our training season. Pretty darn fun to watch my dog do it start to finish. I have one young dog tuned right in trailing and running up front. The other young dog still needs a lot of work but is miles ahead of where she started this season not even going wi...

Re: GARMIN Tread/Drive track71

I would add that I am a much safer driver when I have the drive track fired up instead of looking at my tiny alpha screen. Never heard of the other you mentioned.

Re: "Replaying" a race?

Yes that's pretty much it. I knew you could download the tracks but wasn't sure if you could play them out like you're watching the race unfold again or if it just shows you the line of their tracks. I keep comm the vast majority of the time with my long range unit in the truck so it should be decen...

"Replaying" a race?

Howdy. Does anybody know of its possible to replay a race from stay to finish on Garmin base camp? It seems like you should because I think all the way points from the collar have a tone stamp. I have just never done it and don't know how. Be great to hear any opinions on this. Sent from my SM-G981V...

Re: What's your longest race?

Zero hog races under my belt, that's crazy to think of a pig running that far. Never knew they had those kind of legs. We did pull off a coyote one day at 37 miles. This was straight line calculated from where we started 18 miles straight east until he hit a town then 1 mile north then 18 miles stra...

What's your longest race?

Pulled dogs somewhere between 18-20 miles into the race today. It got me wondering how far is your longest bear chase and what is your average bear chase. I would say our average chase is 6-8 miles.

Re: Let’s talk.

It's possible but I'd say it's pretty low odds that he just happened to cross that trail on top of a very fresh running deer track. Coons are trash for us because we can run off baits during kill season. So it worked out but it definitely makes me even more leary of that button. Sent from my SM-G981...

Re: Let’s talk.

We've had a pretty good start to bear training over the past week. My dog caught up to one by himself first time out and got a little banged up but nothing serious. He did come out on that one so I was worried but he's stuck 2 more on the ground so I think he's OK. Just wanted to share a story from ...

Re: Getting Right on Top of them

I really don't have any business even asking questions about what happens on a lion hunt, but did you have the opportunity to make some big circles around where they got stuck? I imagine that's a lot more difficult out in bluff country but just curious how far you would have had to circle to know he...

Re: training to improve cold trailing?

I don't believe all dogs can smell equally either. I have a plott who is gamey as they come and doesn't take much at all to open. I've seen him check a track in the snow and not give any indication whatsoever of scent and my bluetick goes over there and opens and starts trailing. I never thought the...

Re: Let’s talk.

Always nice to know the ticker still works well! Have not been able to do much myself. Hardly any snow the past 2 weeks but we still have the old crunchy stuff.
