Re: CARNIVORE
I was completely amazed at the amount of fox in that country on that last episode. Unbelieveable. I hunt strictly cat and fox here where I live and was just shaking my head everytime another fox came trotting up to the call and that poor old rabbit decoy.

Re: Young hound not barking
Gotta go with Coastrangecathunting....a young, inexperienced hound in hard, fast races may take several months of hard running before they finally settle in and open the way they are supposed to on the track.
As for the one that opened and "barked allot" right off the bat, it's my experience that ...

Re: trackman?
I bought 2 differen't females that were direct granddaughters of Trackman last year. Differen't crosses. One was a dud from the start. The other one I have just turned 2 years old and is doing really good. Extremely fast, turning into an outstanding strike dog. However, she was surprisingly slow to ...

I live between Fresno and Bakersfield and hunt East of those cities. You are more than welcome to hunt with me if you ever get this way. I tree more fox than cat but do tree some cats.

Re: Garmin Use in California
I liked tree switches back when I used to bear hunt. Because the dogs would get on a bear and go "out of the world" on it and it was nice to know if they were treed or not when they were out of hearing. But since I don't bear hunt anymore (and the switches have since been banned) I don't care if I ...

Re: Garmin Use in California
Give it time.............we'll get the tree switches back and will be allowed to use the garmins. The DFG's published langauge for overturning the current restrictions on garmins and tree switches is strong and from what I have read, there is really no reason why we won't get these privliges at some ...

Re: Roading hounds?
I hunt by roading my dogs 85% of the time, 3-4 days a week and have been doing so for nearly 25 years. Never had a dog run over (but do know of some that have), never ran over one myself (but know some who have), and tree plenty of game. The remainder of the time when I'm not roading, I send them ...

Re: gray fox vs. bobcat dogs
Mike,
sounds like you have a passion for raising and training young dogs just like me. Like you, my oldest and best is about 2-1/2, next best is about 2 then (3) at 12-14 months old. Once I get the young dogs about 3-4 years old and they are long since a "finished dog", I get bored and sell them ...

Re: gray fox vs. bobcat dogs
In regards to switching dogs over from bobcats to fox, I wouldn't try that, I just let them run both. However, I do have a few "oldtime" hunters that swear to me that they never had any trouble breaking their dogs off of coyotes until they started running fox. They tell me that back when they only ...
