Re: Day or night
My coon hunting is mostly a side product of keeping dogs in shape. I road them in rice country. We tend to cover a good 15 to 20 miles. And they will catch coons here and there while they do it. That is the main reason I prefer daytime. Most every one is laid up somewhere shady and cool

Re: Day or night
I prefer day time. The races are a lot shorter. For me I like to stick to bigger tule patches or small briar patches. It usually some pretty good puppy work.

Re: What happened?
There's still a decent number of people on here every now and then. I thinks the ones that like to spend all their time on the internet are doing Facebook. The ones that are left here don't play on the internet too often. Or don't write too much, just like to read what other people are putting on here

Re: Lion Magnets
From what I have seen, it varies from area to area. I know this sounds vague, but it usually has to do with certain box canyons, ridge lines, and saddles. At least when it comes to looking for toms. Google earth is a pretty cool ordeal, especially when it comes to hunting new country. When you look ...

Looking for work
I keep a steady job, but I am lucky to have quit a bit of leanancy when it comes to time off. I enjoy spending my time off guiding lion hunts as much as possible. I have worked guiding in Arizona, Utah, and Nevada. I have also had a little experience working for lion studies here in California. I kn...

Re: To Much Drive
Reguardless of it all, it comes down to how much you like the dog. Personally, it kinda puts a smile on my face when dogs like that are awake and greet me in the morning after 5 or 6 days of hunting. That drive will keep them wanting to hunt hard when the rest just want to lay up and sleep

Re: Alpha 200i
I do not have one, but I watched the video on double u's website describing it. The only advantage I can see in it over the 100 for me personally would be the fact that it has in-reach built in. All the other extras aren't worth upgrading to me personally. But the in-reach is definitely a selling po...

Re: To Much Drive
I would definitely agree with pellet about intelligence. Intelligence in a dog is one of the biggest factors that makes them good and keeps them alive

Re: To Much Drive
I would personally prefer a dog with too much drive every time. I kinda look at it the same as a young pup that wants to trail everything under the sun. I would prefer to have to try and tame down something in a dog than encourage and try to build it up

Re: Question of the Day
For me it all depends on the individual pup. If one drives me crazy and I can't stand to look at it I want to see it showing me something a little younger. If I get along with the pup good and it isn't a hassle what so ever I might give it a little more time. On the same note, if one irritates the h...

Re: Supplements
Lawdawgharris, the stuff I am going to try is a powder that you mix with water. And yes I feed with water on their food. I have been doing that for a while now and it makes a pretty big difference. I will check out wilderness athlete. I did not know they made anything for dogs. I have used their hyd...

Supplements
Is anyone using supplements keyed towards hydration and water storage in a dog this time of year? I have never tried it before. I ha e always just figured conditioning was the best thing. But I am going to try some, just to see if I get any benefits from it. The one I am going to try is k9power hydr...

Traveling
How many of you bounce around in other states. I live in California. But I spend time hunting in Nevada, Utah, and Arizona. I plan on doing a little hunting in Oregon and Idaho one of these days. It's nice to hunt familiar country. But it is hard to beat venturing into the unfamiliar and exploring p...

Re: Saw length
Thanks Mike. I've been wanting a Fanno saw. I just wasn't sure what length. I agree with you on leather. I know other things work, but I like my saddle to look nice. I'm making some conchos for it right now. I will have to put some pictures on here when I'm done. I'm pretty excited about them

For those of you that carry a saddle saw, what length do you prefer to carry?
