Re: Getting a dog to road
Thanks for all the help everyone. I went out and roaded a while tonight on the cotton field roads and necked that dog up to another of mine that roads well. It seemed to work pretty well, the older dog kept him in check and got him to finally pick his head up and just travel a little bit and cover ...

Getting a dog to road
I got a new dog today, he's a treeing walker, almost two years old. This dog is an outstanding hound, he belonged to a friend of mine and I have seen the dog strike and start a cat track, verified by an older broke cat dog, and catch coon by himself, I have very high hopes for him. He has only ever ...

Re: America VS Canada
I think this is more of a matter of state and province than country. Texas is pretty good except no bear, but if you're into hunting pigs then there's no better place. Bobcat, Lion, and coon are all year round and are varmints so all you need is a plain old hunting license, I believe you need a ...

Re: Track minded dogs?
Thanks for the responses, just getting started. I hunted almost every night this week and caught a coon but no cats. I've been hunting an old dog that belongs to a friend of mine who is a straight cat dog, he is nine to eleven years old though, a younger green dog, and a a good solid pack/jump dog ...

Track minded dogs?
I've heard this term used quite a bit in this section to describe cat dogs, and mostly as a favorable trait, but it's hard to tell exactly what everyone means when they talk about a "track minded dog". It seems it's a trait that's prevalent in running dogs and running crosses, but what does that ...

There's a user on here that goes by timberline, he raises Triggs. Go to the classifieds, and they're listed under the heading "Big game hound pups!!".

Re: guide school?
I went to Scott Boulanger's school ten and a half years ago when I was seventeen and three days out of high school. It was a great experience, two weeks in Scott came and told me he had an outfitter needing someone right away and I left to work for him. It was a really good school, and I'd recommend ...

Ever try hockey tape? It's clothlike, gotta be better than duct tape for being slick, its cheap, and pretty tough. Never used it on any dogs but I've put a bunch on a hockey stick, it should be at least as good as duct tape.

Re: What price would b worth being able 2 run in wolf countr
It seems one of the best ways to try to combat wolf problems (in places where it is legal to hunt them) would be to record some hounds at a tree and call with that sound on a foxpro or electric caller. This would elimate wolves who do respond to the sound of dogs barking and what wolves weren't ...

Man, that Trigg is a sharp looking dog. I like the way she sounds too, she sounds like she's just crazy about game.

Re: Texas ?
There's an old guy that I used to cowboy with some that lives around Jayton, Aspermont area named Roy Winters. He had running walkers that he ran yotes with and still had them a couple years ago, don't know if he still does now, I would assume so.

Thanks for the info bear hunter. That's not a very long season is it. It looks like only about two months at the most in the best areas, and no spring season at all.

California regs
My family recently moved to California and are trying to get me to move there as well, I was trying to find out a little more about the rules regarding hounds. The website is a little confusing and contradictory it seems. It says that there is a year round training season excepting during deer ...

Re: All Trigg pack?
Yes that's a gross generalization to say that Triggs that tree are culls. If you're purposely choosing to cultivate an ability to tree that is by definition not culling.
