I would imagine that if your lab has the desire to hunt and a strong nose he could do just fine. Cage a coon if you can and see what he does. If he likes it then let it loose and turn your dog loose a few minutes later.

This is a picture of Bowser, my akita/schnauzer mix standing over a coon. The picture sucks but its the best I have for now. Ill see if I can't get a better one on.

:lol: Generally coonhound breeds are the best getting raccoons up the trees. But there are always exceptions. I have an Akita/standard schnauzer mix that has a warm to hot nose and just started hunting one day. No formal training at all. His first tree was a double and he dispatched both of them by ...

I'm up here near ogden, Ut and try to run coons as much as possible. No true hounds but we still get the job done. TONS of fun

utah coonhunting question
I'm still pretty new to coonhunting and have mainly just run coons during daylight. I'm finding out that the night is better. I am curious what the utah raccoon hunting night restrictions are if any? Use of flashlights? Firearms? Any info would be great. Thamks guys

hey thanks CC, ill give those a look for sure. Have you ever had the vests get caught up on the brush and trees and leave your dog out like a sitting duck?

neck protection for sloppy coon dog
My best catch dog is getting sloppy in his old age. Up until this last year he never got cut up. I figure that you hog boys have the most expertise on neck protection. I'd appreciate any pointers on the best brand-style of neck protection. Thanks.
