NM bear with hounds

Postby mondomuttruner » Sun Jun 14, 2015 8:04 pm

Just wondering if anyone would like to share a little insight into hunting bear with hounds around Timberon, NM. A buddy of mine bought some land there and is heading down there to give it a try. I'm assuming the common strategy is rigging? Any snake issues? They will be hunting the national forest as far as I know. I know getting info from hunters is like pulling teeth but I told him I would give it a shot.

I have not hunted that part of NM., but one of the most effective ways for my to hunt bears out here is to rig dogs. I also free cast them quite a bit. As far as snakes you can pretty much plan on them anywhere out west during the warm months.

Good luck.

Thanks Tee, I appreciate it. Are you aware of any nonresident restrictions?

I'm from Kansas have hunted the Gila a few times. Never had an issue with snakes. We pretty much just rig. We will walk our dogs down some canyons if we think we might hit a bear. Only thing I can say is be in shape. And in the Gila we have ran into more mean bears and killed more bayed on the ground than we do in Arizona where we hunt
