Another good day in the hog woods...

Postby Goose » Mon Jan 08, 2018 11:07 pm

Made another hunt up in the Delta yesterday, I hunted there Tuesday morning and it was 14 degrees with and feel like temperature of 4 degrees, caught a good eating sow and hit and miss rest of the day, yesterday we got there and it was 22 degrees, we found where some hogs had crossed the road, the ice was busted where they went through the ditch but had frozen again, and the leaves that were wet and rustled and frozen solid, we put down a few dogs and they cold trailed for a while and finally bumped them up out their bed and caught a little gilt, I saw some slip hogs cross the road and eased up and put my Ben and butter ran hounds down and my cur Cleo, and the woods came alive, had a 30 minute screaming hot race and they fell bayed, in the meantime the other dogs had crossed the Rd on another good one, we slip in there and catch a boar around 150, get him situated and go the next bay and dispatch a sow the same size and they roll out again and we catch another gilt, it was an action packed morning right out the box and I was pleased with the dog work, my Ben dog fell into a deer race with another hunters pack of deer dogs and I figured I was going to have a time getting him out because I didn't have a tone collar on him, after about 5 minutes of hollering him out when the race got close to me he quit and come out, I was more pleased with that than anything because of the prey drive and bottom he has and I was counting on a long morning and I couldn't really be mad at him because an old man had dumped his box on a buck that crossed the Rd directly behind the truck and they literally ran him on top of us coming out of the woods...

The red gyp is a full sister to my Ben dog that I give the young man holding her after his older gyp got ran over this past summer, wasn't able to get any videos because it's hard toting that 45lb sack of taters that's in the middle, poor little fella gives it his all but daddy's legs are just a little longer so when I have my son with me I usually let the young bucks get all the action and have all the fun while Jr has to pick up every "cool" rock and stick and step in every mud puddle on the way to a bay....
