Looking for blueticks, COLD NOSE

Postby SangreAzulMx » Wed Aug 22, 2018 11:04 pm

I´m looking for information from some bloodlines of papered blueticks that you know that really have good nose.
I track and catch felines in Mexico to take care of them and protect them.

thank you. bless.

There are guys on here more qualified than me to answer about Bluetick lines but I know there are still some out there.

Somebody may ask why I say there are still some, I thought all blueticks were cold nosed.

At the foundation of the breed when it was divided from the English Hounds a great emphasis was placed on the ability of the breed to strike and trail a very old track or a track that was made in very difficult scenting conditions. Hence the bluetick was for a long time along with the earlier old style black and tans known to be the go to dog for cold trail work.

Fast forward to today and just like so many other hound breeds the bluetick to be able to really compete in the big money hunts had to be speeded up, toned down on that cold track stuff, so they wouldn't spend all night untangling an old coon track and be able to go yonder and strike and tree fast to compete with the spotted dogs. Well the winners got big names and big names sell stud fees, and stud fees produce puppies and then more puppies are born and sold and before long you have a bluetick that is pretty much like all other breeds other than the color of his suit of clothes.

My best advice if you really want to track and catch felines as you say is to go visit somebody that is successful in your area at doing that and set down and ask him some questions.

Good luck...

I apologize for my post, does any body knows of anybody that hunts blueticks that do good in the dirt in the New Mexico or Arizona area? I know colors don’t catch but I love a houndy bluetick that can cold trail and catch in the dirt.

I agree. Upstate has great dogs and is a terrific houndsman. The bluetick I purchased from him is outstanding. I think he has one puppy available right now.
