Idaho UKC copetition coon hunts

Postby cjohnson1178 » Wed Sep 15, 2010 8:28 pm

How come Idaho doesn't have any UKC, AKC sponsored competition night hunts. Utah, Wyoming, Montana, Oregon, Washington, Colorado and fricking California all have them. Is there enough interest out there to get a club going with a goal of bringing comp hunts to Idaho.

START A CLUB AND WILL COME. UKC CLUB OFF OF I-90 WOULD BE GREAT AND YOU COULD HAVE HUNTS FROM SPRING TILL FALL WHEN WA AND OR CAN'T HAVE NIGHT HUNTS BECAUSE THERE IS NO PURSUIT SEASON AND THEREFORE NO NIGHT HUNTS.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN?? IF IT'S A UKC OR ANY KC HUNT IT DOESN'T MAKE A DIFFRENCE WHAT STATE YOU LIVE IN. ALL YOU HAVE TO HAVE IS A REGISTERED DOG IN THE KC YOUR HUNTING AND NOT BE BARRED AND PAY YOUR ENTRY FEE.

I mean you have to have an out of state hound hunters permit to hunt a dog in Idaho . They are a draw permit with very limited amounts. Very few out of staters would be allowed to participate.

I have not read the laws but was told by a officer that out of staters could NOT participate in field trials. But would not be the first time an officer had it wrong

just 2 things I was told by a game officer is that for feild comp dose not need the permit and that coons were a nusince animals and now could be hunted like a coyote is as of a few months back but to be frank the comp hunts would be cool but is there many coons in west idaho I tree when i go but we leave them in the tree

Obviously a warden does not have to give you a ticket but that is not what the law says so I was told. " ANYONE OWNING OR HANDLING DOGS MUST HAVE A HOUND HUNTER PERMIT " those were the words the officer emphasized when he read the rules to me.
Personally I would not mind Idaho having hunts even though I would not likely participate.

Idaho Fish & Game will not let a out of state Houndsmen run dogs without a hound hunter permit, which is a draw only. Myself and a few others are currently working with a local senator to try and get a bill passed that would allow non-stae residents and locals to purchase a "competition permit". This permit would be like purchasing a non-resident fishing license and would be goos for a specified number of days. Ifyou are a resident, contact your local state senator and voice your support for this, when it appears before them.

Thanks-

we are talking a comp coon hunt where no coon are killed, not heading to ID to chase for a few days with your buddies from ID.

So there are no bird dog tials in ID? according to you guys the bird dog guys would be in violation of the no hound handlers premit if you say nonresidents cant handle dogs with out a hound handlers premit. if thats not the case why are hound hunters treated diffrently then the bird dog guys

Id imagine you could hold a UKC or any KC comp coon hunt under a field trial premit. I just dont think theres been the intrest to even presue this so thats why no one really knows the awnser. from what I understand in states that coons are game animal, the residents and nonresidents are covered under the KCs premit with that state when the hunts are held in out of season.

why call it a competition premit when its in all reality a chase premit?
