Continuing a certain line of dogs

Postby Dan V » Fri Apr 09, 2010 11:55 pm

Every man who had a succesful line of dogs, got their dogs from somewhere. Some times people come along and try to continue or improve upon those dogs. It could be family, friends, hunting partners or a motivated hunter who bought some pups and they ended up being the corner stone of their hounds for decades.

What have you guys seen when it comes to someone trying to continue what another man started?

For example:
Cameron Blue Ticks
You see people selling a litter of "PURE" Camerons, when the seller (not Del Cameron) raised the parents, grand parents and great grand parents. Del Cameron never had the say in who was bred or culled in that litter.

Not trying to pick on Del or anyone who has dogs that go back to Del's. But he is one of the big names in blue ticks.

What are some success stories of someone taking an already proven bunch of dogs and keeping them going when the original guy is dead or no longer hunting?

Or did the dogs keep their traits but changed physical appearance? go down hill? or improve?

As to Lions and Cats, I would say this:

Vaughn - improved
Smokey River - improved
Camerons - somewhat improved
Nance - improved
