Just out of curiosity, I decided to ask for you guys' opinion on this. When I tried to get started, I bought a pup that was supposed to be Blue(he had 2 other litter mates and they were Bluetick). Course, when I got him, I didnt give much thought to his color cause I finally had a hound. Unfortunatly, he got ran over before I could take him hunting. But while I was on here, I saw a dog that looked just like Sam except it was a Walker. Is this color common or even possible in Blueticks?
Thanks,
D

Re: Bluetick or Walker?
Happens often in some lines of Blues. it is not the "standard color but it does happen.
way back in 1962 I got a female that looked very much like that -- her breeding was close up to Mountain Music Blue Blaze and out of a daughter of Thompson's Radar doubling up the Vaughn's Fly stock.
I know of a good female in Tenn. that looks very much like that. Gemini
here is one I raised a couple of years ago that is a bit more ticked up.
I am sure that there are more out there as the female in that top picture was out of Spring Creek Hooch and I know there was more than one from him that were colored like Gemini

Bluetick and Walkers are both from the English coonhound. Black and white blueticks still pop up in some litters ,especially when close bred.

Re: Bluetick or Walker?
I had some Hammer5 Blueticks that looked like that. Some of the old time bluetick guys I ran into called them Sports for their color.
If you get a chance to read Lester Nance's book History of the Treeing Walker you will see how close many of these old spotted dogs were in breeding when they broke out of the English and created the Treeing Walker and Bluetick Coonhound registries.
