Re: Bobcat vs. Coyote

Good discussion. I have personally witnessed one live interaction between coyotes and a bobcat. I was calling predators at night, and had a bobcat come across a wide open pasture for a 1/4 mile. As the cat got within 150 yards, I noted a coyote coming in hot on the same track the cat took. Now, was ...

Re: bobcat and predator calling

Buster, just wanted to check and see if you had any luck. I went out with a couple of buddies the second to the last day of the season and we called this one in with a jackrabbit call (night calling). We also called in a bunch of coyotes. This cat came from a ranch that gets trapped pretty hard, but ...

Re: Colorado big game and dogs

Gravedigger, just curious... what big game were you hunting when this happened?

I understand on the inconsistancies, and have personally battled the dislike/mistrust of houndsmen. No doubt some have given them reason, but that should not cast a bad light over all of us.

If you were not doing ...

Re: Colorado??

To be clear, you can "train" dogs on coons and coyotes. The training of dogs on raccoons is permitted except from May 1 through June 30 of each calendar year (not year round). You CANNOT "take" coons out of season. The coyote training period is a little dumb (The training of dogs on coyotes is ...

Re: Cat strecher prefrences.

Jason, Fur Harvesters Auction Inc. has a pelt handling guide that gives the dimensions for stretcher boards. For bobcat/lynx, here is what they print for width of board at various points along the length:

2" = 3" wide
6" = 5" wide
12" = 6 1/2" wide
24" = 6 3/4" wide
40" = 7 1/2" wide
72" = 8" wide ...

Re: ever have a good dog get worse?

Had a similar incident the other night, except she ran it into a swamp of cattails. Eventually (within 20 minutes), she came back out on the same trail in. There were no trees out there for a long ways. I could hear her breaking through ice and splashing in water. This is as excited as I have ever ...

Nice Don. One of these days mine will make it happen. Maybe when that little red dog (Amber) gets bigger! LOL
Any luck on chasing that Blaze dog down?

Re: Fellow Houndsman in Need!!!!!!

I have a bunch of 34x36 Wranglers, probably 10-15 pair (faded but in good shape)and a bunch of 4t clothes for Haylee (might be a little big now, but I'm sure she'll grow into them). I'll see what else I can rustle up and send them as soon as possible.

I don't know Devin, and I'm sure he doesn't ...

Re: Colorado elk hunting?

Define "decent bulls"! The better quality bull hunts will require years to draw a tag for a rifle hunt. Your chances might be better for archery. Even then, good quality bull hunts require a draw.

If your trying to save yourself a drive, the NW part of the state is your best bet. But as I said ...

Re: Colorado elk hunting?

Buzz, asking people to give up their best hunting spots probably will not get many responses. However, as a general rule, if your trying to beat the crowds, your best bet is wilderness areas. That would fit with your wish to pack in.

I don't get over into that country much at all, but I'l pass on ...

Re: Pedretti X Eichler Info?

Don, I'll try to help out by adding full names. Its Rob Pedretti and Fred Eichler.

I believe Pedretti passed away. I think he used to guide for Eichler, and worked the southern Colorado, northern New Mexico areas.

Fred Eichler is the TV personality/outfitter/hunter (Predator Nation and Easton ...
