Got lucky again.......

We caught this little rascal on Wednesday after thinking we were gonna get skunked. We hunted all morning without a bark then started this one around 3:30pm.

The dogs took the track to the right side of the road and went about a half mile before they made a lose in the road. I watch the whole thing unfold on the garmin. Penni my ol’dog walked into the lose turned around and made a fast “B” line for the other end of the track. 2 of my other dogs followed her directly back to place we started it and found it out on the other side of the road. They trailed on it for 45min then jumped and treed it.

How the heck does a dog know what direction a track is going? Is it a natural trait or can it be taught?



She didn't want me to close to her and I didn't want to jump her so this is the best pic I could get....

The trait you describe is both acqured thru experience and inherited thru the desire to find the game and finish the track!

Brains...Brains the #1 thing to look for in a Hound. Nose can't help without the Brains to know how to use it!

Agreed....I have said it many times before....brains. A dog with brains will teach you more than we can learn about the cat and it's ability.

I have not had any luck tracking down Blaze. He may be the last chance I have at keeping this strain of dogs alive.
