Re: Any coon Hunters in South Dakota???
Give Jim Hagen a call when you get there. ( Don't have his number handy but I'm sure he's in the phone book.) He's a long time houndsmen and good guy. Theres a pretty active club just north of there in southeastern north dakota that puts on several hunts a year.

Re: Does anyone know where I can find a coon in MT
I'm looking for a caged or dead coon to train my dog with and am having a hard time trapping one. Does anyone know where I can find one around the gallatin valley? Thanks.

Hi Tessa. I've been running a few bobcat and the boar coon are on the prowl now so we've been keeping them on their toes. How 'bout you? Is your knee getting better?

There's a lot of good advice in the previous responses.......and as you can tell, a lot of different ways to start a hound on bobcats. I've never had a problem starting a hound on lion then switching them to bobcat, except that bobcat are much harder (way less scent and a lot more stamina once ...

Actually, if it's ever going to happen it will be here in Wyoming........or Alaska. I love that this state has never bowed to political correctness, or outside influences.

Re: General hound hunting question
Sorry, I just realized you were asking about beardogs......something I have little knowledge of. I was talking about cat dogs. Not sure if that makes a big difference or not, but I don't know what bearhunters want.

Re: General hound hunting question
To me, it has mostly to do with why I turned loose in the first place. Did I turn loose to tree a cat or did I turn loose to teach some dogs? I usually turn loose to teach some dogs.

Re: Oh boy...what to use!!
Don't know the age of the dog you're trying to get started, but with the habitat you've got to hunt, I'm not sure you'd really have to start with a caged coon. If your dog's at least 6 months old I think I'd just take it for walks at night in the places where you're wanting to set traps. I only use ...

Re: Merchants Tree Blaster
Of course Bob was interested in Blaster to enhance the tree in his dog. He saw a need and went after the dog that, at the time, was one of the best producers of tree dogs alive. Isn’t that a sign of a good breeder? Bob’s claim to fame at the time was that he was one of the last breeders of the true ...
