Re: right age to start my coonhound?

I have heard that it is hard to find good blood lines too. If I remember correctly, I read somewhere that at one time redbones were the breed to have. Then people started to breed for traits not related to performance. This changed the breed into something less desirable. That being said. I do ...

Re: right age to start my coonhound?

You do not want to over do it with a caged coon, but it is great for getting them fired up. Also by tying a rope to the cage, and putting the rope over a tree limb, and lifting the car off the ground, you can work on training your pup to tree. Once your pup starts showing interest, let a caged coon ...

Re: right age to start my coonhound?

Every dog is different. One of my pups started bear running bear at 6 months old. Some started at 8-9 months old. Some at around a year old. My best advice is take your pup out to the woods during the day. Let it explore , and get used to being away from your side. Lay some drags, and get a caged ...

Re: dog in or out

The best hound I ever owned stayed in the house. She was a great start and rig dog. Keeping her in the house did not affect her hunting ability. She also provided a lot of entertainment to the family. The only downside was the hole she left in the family when we lost her to cancer.

Good Luck with ...

Blue Gascon's?

This is for all the Blue Gascon owners out there. My niece is looking to get a Blue Gascon, and she was asking me some questions regarding blood lines, breeding, and availability in or near Wisconsin.

Being a plott man myself, I have very little knowledge of the Gascon breed. Any info that anyone ...

Re: 2015 National Hound Association Summit.

Buddy,

A few years ago, the WBHA had a summit of bear hunting associations. This was supposed to be an annual event, unfortunately it only took place for two years. I know that we hosted both events, and then it was supposed to be held in other states, not sure why it died out, as I was no longer ...

Re: Wisconsin Training Season Opener

anyone have any good trees? we had runners and no trees yet. old dogs need some conditioning to get their stamina back.

Have not even been out yet. Went up to bear camp on the 4th expecting the whole crew only to find an empty camp. Apparently there was some sort of dispute, and now one guy is ...

Re: Car Sickness and Long Distance Hauling

I have 2 females 5 years old that get sick as soon as they go in the box. Truck don't even have to move. They drool like a water faucet running out of their mouth. Once they hit the ground they are fine. They have done it since pups and one of these females I have a couple pups off of her and they ...

Re: rigging bear

depends on the scenting conditions. I've seen my best rig dog miss a track that was only hrs old because the wind is wrong. found the track by looking out the window. couldn't get it going that day. next morning the dogs blew the top off the box in the same spot and I couldn't find a new track ...
