It is seven inches wide track. I took a picture with a measuring tape but it had sun glare and you can't read the tape. All I know is he sank deeper into the mud than my 200 pound weight on one foot.

The rule of thumb is a 7 inch track would be a 8 foot bear. The fresh mud would show a little bigger then a track on a road, I would think an honest 7 foot plus.

I know nothing about bears, but 7 years ago while trapping in the Gila, we came across a bear track on the edge of a dirt tank. I've seen afew tracks but this one was by far the largest. We went back with a tape and it measured out at 7 5/8. Just curious, how many feet would a bear that leaves a track that size go. Later Kiel

I have seen some N. California dump bears that would go about 650 pounds. We have big bears here in Oregon. But they don't grow much over 500 pounds naturally. The track is just under seven inches and is as big as I've seen around here. He's probably lighter cause it is spring. Anyway, I just thought I'd stir up some comments. I'm after him without the hounds. Wonderful state of Oregon law is no dogs no bait. And I'm using arrows. Anyhow, my big bear is primarily nocturnal. I'm going to try a preditor call.
