Be very careful with the shock collar you can wreck a pup in a hart beat. There have been more wrecked then broke with the electric brakes.
There attention span is short work it up into a frenzy and put it up, and do it again tomorrow.

at that age i dont think anything helps you evaulate or develop a dog as far as hunting ability as much as seeing game up close, roll cage or what ever. its not the end all, some dogs dont turn it on to later. as far as discipline you do have to be careful with a shock collar but that does not mean you cant use one. i often will use a false shock collar or a collar that i dont turn on. youll find that helps you double think your decision before shocking. i also believe that dogs just have a natural feeling when that collar goes on. if not hit the tone button one time next time you put the collar on leave it off. i use the tone button 20 to 1 over shocking. also you can try to run the dog down, get him tired then work with him when he is no so fool of enery. there attention span is short so this window can be small. good luck

Ya the only thing i say about the shocking collar is to make sure you shock them for doing wrong, if they do wrong i say shock them good so they remember. Then you raise your voice and scold them for doing wrong. If the dog is any good the dog will want to hunt after being disaplined or not. I have a body who babys his dogs and his dogs are pretty good but even his best dog at 5 years old still trashes out. So dont be gentle or to hard on the dog. But make him mind.
Hunting with hounds is not a hobby its a disease!

When teaching a dog how to come to you and mind u when u call him I found that using a rope about 30 feet or so long and letting the dog get out there then calling the dog and pulling them to you works good. Use a shock collar if the dog wants to pull back away. Works real good. I have a six month old that minds me very well with very little work using this method. Alot of it is just simply handling the dog and getting them familiar with u and u familiar with the dog. He will figure out u r the dominent male real fast. Good Luck!!
