Re: coon season in CA
I'm guessing that there isn't a lot of coon being hunted down there. I'm not sure how many people actually run hounds once you get down past Modesto. I don't think there are many.

HI,
You can find out the answers to your questions if you search in google for California department of fish and game and look in section 265 ..
§265. Use of Dogs for Pursuit/Take of Mammals or for Dog Training.

Southern California has ALOT more Houndsmen than your guessing or thinking. I wish I had the Mts to myself when hunting here locally in the San Bernardino and Angeles Forests but I'm not so lucky.
As for coon hunting year round down South here, I believe the South East area from the Salt and Sea to the Colorado River is open year round or at least open longer for coon than most area, BUT who wants to run your hounds in the low desert in 100 + degree heat at night in snake infested areas to chase coons ?

Re: coon season in CA
I didn't know that there were many down in Southern California, I figured that there were a few, but not alot. I don't get to run my dogs much in the summer for the same reasons. Rattlesnakes, foxtails, and the heat! When I do its late night and right on the river...
