Garmin Astro 220 Bear

Post by Shwagy357 »

I am considering purchasing a garmin astro 220 with a couple of DC30 collars in the near future. I will be using the tracking system to bear hunt in the mountains of Western North Carolina. I have a couple of questions I was wondering if someone could please help me out with.

-Is there anyway to get long and lat coords from the collars? (Suppose a dog was treed, is there anyway the system can show the coords of the location where the dog is treed?)

-Is it worth waiting for the highly anticipated "DC40"?

-Where is the cheapest place to buy one?

-Is there anything else I should take into consideration before purchasing?

The beauty of the Garmin is that you do know where your dogs are. If you are receiving signal then you can pan over to your dog zoom in and get the coordinates of where it is. Don't know anything about the DC-40 but like anything else new it's always a good idea to wait 6 months for the bugs to get worked out. Cheapest place I have found Garmin collars and Astro is on Ebay. You can get collars for $160 with free shipping. The other consideration would be to buy the Map Source product for your area or the Micro SD card for your area. That way you will have the maps you need on the astro.

Hope that helps
