I am sure that you guys probably do. But from my experience, mean bear don't even ever entertain the thought of attempting to tree. Once you tire them out enough, they will find a spot to back in and stop though. That is usually when you can get a crack at them. It's just not going to be in a tree.

I don't think that bears that tree then bail are overly mean. They just need a bit more convincing than most to tree. :D You are right though, some bear will keep up there if you can get in there and below. And some bear are destined to come out as soon as they see you making it in there. It just depends on the bear.

i also may have worded it wrong. just don't hear to much from out west bout the person in general being run. we have bears with reputations. a few bears have gotten death tolls upward of 50. maybe fot the sheer numbers of dogs we lose a year and how many hunters actually get slapped or bit every year is where i made my assumption. im sure we have all seen a bear sit down pick a dog bite the neck and twist the head and just lay the dog down and move on to the next one
