Dennis,

You said "I'll agree that a big hearted hound is hard to beat, but if they don't have the physical ability and feet to go along with the heart then it aint much good Brent............."

Say there bud, you wouldn't be using an analogy to talk about yourself here would you? ;)

Amigo, right now you are sharing... one day when you're as great as me and seen as much game THEN it will be braggin'... :D :D

If a braggart is the worst thing someone is calling me, then things are surely looking up for me. ;)

But the lady at the gas station already called me worse than that this morning... so I guess nothing has really changed. ;)

Cool video Ike......thanks for sharing.

But for the sake of those of us that skipped karate school to go run our hounds, is it still possible to launch that devastating karate chop if your lying flat on your backside??

Dennis,

You said you used to fight a lot but quit because "one day I got older and realized life was just too short..."

Uh, question. Are you sure it was because life was too short, or was it really because something else was too short? ;)

Sorry bud, that one was too easy. :D Have a great new year in 2008 and thanks for being a good sport and humoring us with our internet BS and playing along.

Hope everyone has a great 2008, keep the wind at your backs and may the pantry always have food in it, and when you draw your last breath, may their be no regrets!!

All the best to all of you in 2008. -Brent

Brent, I think your same dog got that heart from his dad (Bud). I hunted behind that dog and he had alot of it, funny how the traits carry on I've also seen it in trapper to bad they get old and move on. No doubt those two litter mates have caught there share of game.

Hey Lightning Ridge,

Sam was a nice dog for me but truth be told I still think Trapper was the better of the two, at least on the cats.

Hounding is a strange game... Sam passed away and Kirk recently just caught a lion with Willy, Sam's mother... she's got to be 14 years old and he said she still looks great and goes hard. I have no idea what condition Trapper is in these days.

About 6 or 7 years ago Kirk crossed Sam and Trapper's mother Willy (for the last time I think) with a redtick dog of his named Red. (I think CG has the dog now) There were four pups and I took one, my buddy took one and then Kirk kept the rest. Somehow I ended up with all four of them at my house. I still have three, they are my core pack and my buddy has the other dog. All four are hunting units.

Boy, that line of dogs has sure treated me well. I hated to see Kirk get out of the breeding business. :( Happy New Year!!

Brent, trapper is still in good shape but is showing his age, No doubt Kirk and Chris have had some fine dogs over the years. Didn't you have a little female out of the same litter as sam and trapper?

Right, when I picked up Sam and Trapper as pups there was also a little bluetick female littermate. Good looking little dog.

She got sick shortly after I got her home, like the next day. I took her over to Nebo Animal clinic and they told me there was nothing wrong with her and sent me home. She died two days later.

Some locals around here make fun of Dr. Porter and say they would never take a dog to him. I've never had a dog die in his care and he's saved a couple that didn't look like they'd make it through the night.

The only dog I've had just up and die on me was that pup, after Nebo told me the dog was fine. :( So ya, I did have a little female littermate for about two or three days.

I ended up with a male and three females out of that last batch Kirk had. Willy was the mother and I think the father was maybe out of Ripper or one of Kirk's other dogs, I forget. But I still have a bluetick male, a little bluetick female and a red female that was Kirk's pup he kept, then later gave to me. The other little female belongs to a buddy of mine down in Delta. I probably should have kept her. Oh well.

I have a little female dog I got from a buddy in Oakley and I was going to take and cross her with Kirk's Red dog this spring... but she had some health problems a few weeks ago and needed to be spayed, so she won't be having any pups.

So instead I'll probably cross this red female I have from Kirk to a nice male dog my buddy owns. I'm not much of a breeder but my buddy really wants to try and keep this line alive somehow so we'll see.

If it don't work I got about three more good years out of these older dogs and then it will be the end of an era for me. That damn Kirk was supposed to keep getting pups to me. ;) If it's left up to me, I ain't smart enough and will probably end up hunting half Lab half Collie dogs here in a couple of years and wondering why I can't catch anything. ;)
