need some assistance

Post by affiremech »

I have a 3 yr old B&T Female that has been having diarrhea with a bit of blood in it. It's not extremely runny but for the last month never really been solid. I took her to the vet. They checked her out but no blood test or anything else. They sold me a bag of dog food that is extremely light with no fillers to see if that helps. It has not yet. I have a follow up appt later this week but was wondering if anyone has seen this. Thanks for the help

I had a lab have those same problems, turned out he was poisoned. He lived through it. That same dog was poisoned four times, and later died of a turkey bone ? Go figure! I t might pay to have some blood tests ran. jmo hope everything works out.

You really haven`t given a whole lot of info for us to comment on, other than the immediate symptoms.........blood mixed with loose stool, which can result from MANY possibilities.

Did your vet do a complete physical exam on her? If so, were there any significant findings?

As with trying to diagnose any medical problem, providing an accurate history of the patient is paramount an invaluable information. Get a note pad and write your findings down.

If she were mine, some of the questions I`d be seeking answers for are........
Hiow much blood is there and how often? Every bowel movement?

What color is the blood, bright red? tarry-black? clots? yes, it matters.........

How is her appetite? H20 intake?

What condition are her other organ systems in......renal function, liver function, neurological system, urinary system, gastric system from mouth to rectum, resiratory system, vascular-cardiac system, etc?

You need to look for clues to determine WHICH pathway requires more investigation, be a sleuth and looks for clues..... did she chew a stick and swallow some sharp splinters? ditto for bone shards? Injested anything toxic.

Has she suffered any trauma.....falls, a blow to the ribs or gut? Did you get a pian response when you gently but purposely pushed on her abdomen with your palm?

Does she have a temp? Yes could mean an infection is brewing. Get your self a thermometer and learn how to take it.....again, invaluable information.

Are you feeding crap food with grain from China that has toxic melamine in it? What food do you feed regularly? Did you switch foods recently?

Have you wormed her? If so with what and when?

Have you noticed her behaving any differently? Any changes. Dogs feeling unwell give such clues, you just gotta observe and recognize them. Are your other dogs well?

Symptoms and findings help you determine if the problem is from trauma or if it`s a medical origin. Dogs can suffer from illnesses similar to what people get, plus a host of thier own.

Doing all of this costs next to nothing to do, and is much more productive than simply doing nothing, and you`ll have solid info to present to your vet when you go.
