Truck Question

Can anyone tell me how the Ford Ranger V6 3.0 compares to the old Toyota (truck) V6 3.0 in terms of power and life?
Also can anyone tell me, can you put chains on the front tires of a 2000 model Ford Ranger?
Just curious, my old Toy is running on 5 cylinders and I think I have found a decent deal on a Ranger but I know nothing about them. I have never owned anything but Toyotas but people just want too much money for what they have.

Another question does anyone know where to buy a good engine for my Toyota? Anyone know any business they can recommend for installing the engine?
This all has to be within 4 hours driving time of northern California.

yeahh those things are garbage. a buddy of mine had one and you couldnt even drive around in the desert in 2-wheel drive lol..got stuck in real fine dirt and sand..it didnt have any balls at all..it was after all a ford so you cant expect too much from em anyway LOL
get another yota, you can run those things into the ground.

I replaced two engines toyota trucks. Both were those Japanese motors you order. You see the add in the thrifty nickle all the time. Both engines worked good. They were running good when I sold the truck.
Another option is to call down to the toyota wrecking yared on recycle blvd there in Sacramnto. They can also get good used engines. Everyone is right about the ford rangers. I have owned 3 through out the years. All Junk.

Ran problem free for 8 years in my 89 4runner and was still running great when I sold it last december. Not sure if they still to Toyotas but a dealership referred me to them

To answer your question NO! Stay away from ford Rangers POS! and remember what ford stands for:
fix or repair daily
found on road dead
f-ed over rebuilt dodge
Backwards: Driver returns on foot

and no it does not stand for: first on race day (what a joke)

On a serious note, ford does make some good vehicles these days but the ranger is not one of them.

pretty harsh on the Ford's, I have a 350 that I trust full on. However when dealing with the small motors it's the opposite. From what I've seen the 3.0 are pretty worthless however the 4.0 is a solid motor. And as far as the chains no, not unless the front has had a leveling kit on it. That's my two cents!

I wouldn't hunt out of any other truck than a toyota tacoma. Gas mileage is good, the v6 has plenty of power, can't get them stuck, and are almost bullet proof!

My friend makes his living replacing engines. Mostly ford V-6's and small V8S

They're all decent for the most part if taken care of. It just boils down to you can beat the hell out of them, not change the oil or any other fluids like you should thats why Toyotas do so well. Most people don't take care of their vehicle, especially houndsmen! I'm a Cummins guy myself, but I will say for little trucks my friend had an 87 Ranger that had more power than any v6 toyota thought of having, I don't know much about the newer ones. Three of the guys I hunt with have little trucks, 1 toyota, and 2 Rangers. The rangers both have more power and get better mileage, but the Rangers will die an earlier death than the toy.

I had 380,000 on a 3 litre 2000 Ford Ranger. Still ran good when I sold her. Never did a lick of work on the engine. Replaced the Rad and alternator which was all the work needed under the hood.
It had 3 fuel pumps in that time along with new bearings in the tranny and same for the rear end. The front end was needing ball joints.
I got about 26-27 mpg(Imp) average.

I serviced it about once a month with oil change and filter and serviced tranny and rear diff once a year.

Most vehicles if serviced regular are good for 400,000 or so especially if they are not overheated with a cooling issue.

it was a good reliable vehicle that was handy in the bush especially snow.

I have owned 4 Toyota pickups over the last 15 years. Thrashed the heck out of all of them. I have had extremely good luck with them. When Toyota did the recall on the 3.0 litre head gaskets my truck had 241,000 miles on it. The head gaskets went out. That was the first thing that ever went wrong with the truck. The wrecker picked my truck up and delivered it to the Toyota dealership. Toyota installed a brand new factory engine. The bill would have been over $6500. I never paid a penny, not even the tow bill. So if Toyota will put a new engine in a truck with 241,000 miles on it, they must expect them to last too. TRUE STORY! In the same 15 years I have had 3 Dodges, 3 Chevys, and 4 Fords. I took fairly good shape of my bigger trucks. Not one of the full-sized trucks held up as good as the worse Toyota. I also had a Ford Ranger for about a year, I enjoyed the ride, the seat was comfortable, but that is about the only good things I can say about that rig.

Go with a Toyota Tacoma 2000 or newer. I currently own 2 of them and they are worth there weight in gold as far as I am concerned. They aren't cheap but they will pay for themselves in the long run. I see these little cars with primer hoods and such, wouldn't it be cool if scratches and dents became the style, Hounders would make out like bandits.

I had a toyota that i was going to junk because it was getting pretty rough . I bought a ford ranger had it for about four months and sold it . I got the old toyota back on the road .That was two years ago and i'm still driving it .
