Spruce Mtn,
I am up in Jackman and have a 9 month redbone that I am hoping to get trained on bear. We are going out today with a guy I met up here with walkers to see how he does on some drags. I am a newbie but am hoping to learn a lot and hoping to meet more people in the area running dogs.. Do you have experience in training a pup for this? How often do you run your dogs in the summer? I am hoping my pup can follow some good broke dogs so he can learn too..

Nice looking hound you have there.I run every chance I get, which in the summer is 2 or 3 days a week. The closer to the season it gets the more I run.I raise and train most of my own dogs and have for years.

Just looks out of place to me . Good luck on the training drag exercises.

Yeah,I can't believe our good luck.It does help to have a good organization like the Maine Professional Guides Association, working for us.If anybody is not a member you should think about joining, there doing some great things for us.

Olred33 : Good looking hound . I was thinking somewhere in the SW . How is the Drag exercise working out
Keep us posted on the training , There are plenty of guys on here to give good information .
Re: Running 6 dogs in Maine
All, thanks for the support. The drags went well and the pup was on the tree most of the time. We have been out several times for training season and he is slowly getting into it. He takes off out of the box like a mad man but the first few times he was walking back down the road to the truck after the dogs hit the woods. He isn't keeping up but im sure he will in time. Walked him into a bear last night and he seemed to feel more comfortable in the woods and was following the other dogs so for now were going to really work on him keeping up and not coming back to the truck!

I'm not sure if Tom was the man responsible or not but I do know he passed away on Monday after Plott Days in a work related accident.

Re: Running 6 dogs in Maine
The reason we are so happy is because we could only run 4 dogs before. Talk about hard to train pups.
