Does a Non resident need both a hunting license and bear tag to pursue bear or just the license? Also what is the cost of each? Thank you.

Yes you do have to have both hunting license and bear tag, and it isn't cheap!
Nonresident hunting license is $144.65
Nonresident bear tag is $245.75
If you are going to bear hunt in California, you really need to read up on the rules for each zone also. Bear season opens with deer season for bow, then during rifle season you can only have 1 dog per tagged hunter, when deer season is over then you can run as many dogs as you like. You can't use gps or treeing switches, and the list goes on. Definetly read up if you are going to fork out the cash, because any fines make the cost of licenses seem like spare change!

Ihavnt checked this years regulations but as of 2009 If you go with another hunter who has a bear tag he is allowed to use your dogs. That could save you some money if you know someone in Ca that has a bear tag. And like Walker dog said one dog per hunter during general deer season. It is unlimited dogs after general deer season.

Yeah, you just might want to wait till deer season is over. I don't think I'm going to run during deer season this year. Too many issues. People all over the mountains, they shoot when dogs get near, I had deer hunters shoot 2 bears out of my trees last year. My spot has already had a few garden raids in the last few months. I love when you run into "deer hunters" in the woods with automatic weapons and their finger on the trigger.

Bearbait, you can pay 90 bucks and come hunt Utah. It's probably not much further if it is at all. I drove it from eatonville in one day with kids. For an extra 30 you can hunt lions. It's 30 for bear pursuit 30 for lion pursuit and 60 for the hunting license. You can use GPS and everything here. You can also stay in my house or camper, where ever we happen to be closest to. If you're interested, give me a call 435-828-7792.

There are enough to make it worth while. There have only been a couple days when we haven't found one to chase and those were earlier in the year with cold rainy weather. The country is rough compared to up there but it's do able.
