has anyone ever had there hounds stomach flip after running them, happen to my 7 year old walker he get a surgerie this thursday called a gastro pexie. vets said he will be a 100 % again after the surgery. if you have ever had this happen how did youre dog run after it had this surgey did the hound run the same?

it cost 500.00 his surgery will be this thursday but ive already paid 351.00 for his first vet visit his stomach diolated and almost killed him

More common than folks realize....... Kudos to you for recognizing that something was wrong with your dog, and ACTING upon it.

My mutts get two smaller meals per day, and no exercise after eating for at least 2 hours, waiting longer is better. They do not get fed the morning of hunting. Hunting days, they get just one larger meal.
Large dogs are more prone to this condition thann are smaller dogs.

ya thats what the vet told me. my dog just got the surgery he is acting like his normal self again but i have to wait about a month be for i can run him again, good thing he should be ready for coon season

Years ago when Del Cameron was running the sugar creek dog he lost some good dog to it he said it would happen after feeding. And that it was more common in the deep chested dogs

It is very common with large dogs. Especially great danes. Can happen to horses to.

I lost a really good red dog 2 years ago to a flip / and old plott man said feed twice a day so far no trouble

well i dont think my hound is going to make it, he got the surgery and was doing good but this morning he bloated again and is'nt doing good

The lady that runs the feed store where I get my dog food told me that dogs with deep chests like hounds and bird dogs can have their stomachs flip from eating corn in their food. What kind of dog food do you feed and does it have any fillers? Her husband used to have blueticks so shes been around these types of dogs before. It might be something to look into. I feed my dogs twice a day and never before i go hunting. I like to feed them at least 8 hours before any type of run. I hope your dog pulls through good luck!

It doesn't always happen after feeding or to large dogs. I had a smaller dog that was about 3 and weighed around 35 pounds. I was out roading dogs in the afternoon, when I got done everything seemed fine. I had to run in to walmart to get a few things and when I got home and let the dogs out of the box he was curled up in the back looking pretty poor. I called the vets cell phone but he didn't answer. He ended up dying just after I woke up the next morning.
