The maximum range I got with the Tinyloc GPS was 9.1 miles. That’s pretty good I think (never got up to 13.4 like the add says). With radio tracking mode I got up to 19 miles before the “pip” gave up. In our forests, that’s not bad.

They do not have a topographical map built in to the receiver, but I could connect my receiver to a hand held laptop and see where my dogs where on a topo map that was more than satisfying. A bit uncomfortable to carry a laptop with you when hunting but if someone wants to do so then it is possible. But I must admit, I missed having the topo map in the receiver to see where my dogs were.

To summarize, the improvement in range alone makes this system more usable for me. What good is a topo map if garmin loses the GPS connection all the F’’’ING time? The combination between GPS and radio tracking works nicely and can’t complain about the battery life either.

Check out their website http://www.tinyloc.com and look at the videos under "tutorial". They explain some stuff that could be interesting to know before making the decision to purchase one.

I allways wondered if you hook up the tiyloc up to a lap top in the truck and it reported on a google map in real time then the 9 miles compared to the 3 mile garmin gave in the above comparison would mean 3 times the distance and be the soultion to our problems.

I wonder if we can get Steve White to explain why tinyloc can get better range and has over come the line of site thing on the same freq. Garmin uses and then relay the findings on to Garmin.

Thanks for all the input I was checking out the site and liked the part about them not using cell towers like garmin and I dont care what it looks like as long as it works to find my dogs . I will still look into it a bit more and Im not sure but I think they have came up with some new collars look nice to me. Thanks all

Just to clarify, Garmin doesn't use cell towers. If they did you wouldn't get a signal over 3/4 of our hunting area. I've got no clue on this TinyLoc deal but have been happy with my Astro. Sure there are things I would change or want, but it has been very helpfull for me.

Could you hook this Tinyloc system up to an iPod with the mapping app downloaded and use the said iPod as the GPS window?

I wonder if they would be legal in Ca if you just used the telemetry portion. Then if you lose a dog you could use the GPS to find him. Does anyone know if the reciever stores the GPS info or if you have to have it hooked up to a lap top all the time for that info to be used.

I was waiting but now with their new press release looking like it will be some time i plunged into Garmin and now have 10 DC 30's. I am asking for punishment i know but that is all we have unless tiny loc comes through but they are overseas and if they give half the problems Garmin has i would just have to jump off a high place.

has anyone used the dc 40 yet and are they all that or just another cheap collar with design problems that are obvious.

let me be clear i love the Garmin and dont want to go to the woods without it. but it is kinda like a pretty women; real nice to have but after a while you relize it's just not worth the headachs. (Ugly old Telementry never gave a minutes problem)
