Runts

Post by Brindle »

I kept the runt out of my last litter. Shes starting to bay at a coon and all the good stuff. But she is a really small dog. dad is about 65 pound. Mom was 55 pounds. She is about 20 and almost six months old. I was just wondering what everyones opinion of the runt of the litter is ????? I think I will like mine.

This is absolutely my opinion. A true runt is not necessarily the smallest dog in the litter. Maybe to some it is. A true runt to me is a pup that is unusually small, like a midget, destined to be small by breed standards. I have kept many pups that were the smallest in the litter only to have them outgrow other littermates. If your pup is healthy and has good conformation then I would say it is on the way to being as normal as any other pup. Good luck.

I choose the smallest pup in the litter, four months later he treed two lions in one day by himself. That same season he treed a bobcat and two other lions by himself. I talked to the guy I got him from the other day and at 57 lbs apparently hes a pretty big kemmer from the lines he is from. I don't know about anyone else but I'd take the "runt" again in a heart beat.

I have more times than not kept the runt of the litter and have been glad I did. They have been very fine boned fast dogs. It seems the females that were runts grew up to be very small dogs compared to the others in the litter but yet never was consistant at passing the smaller sized dog on once she was breed and had pups.
The home of TOPPER AGAIN bred biggame hounds.
