Post by bency »

just picked up a hound thats a year old from a friend, this hound has had no shots of any kind or has never been wormed be for.
So i went and took care of his regular shots, and wormed the dog, but the dog is supper skinny and does not want to really eat at all, just drinks tons of water?? ive tried to make his meals as appealing as possible but he doesnt want to eat very much, just drinks water.

any suggestions on whats going on??
thanks,
mike.

First thought.
Dog is still wormy. What did you worm the dog with?

Second thought.
Give the Dog Acidophilus and Brewers yeast tabs.
One of each three times a day.

Let us know.

zimectrin gold works as a great all around wormer and a great heart worm prevantative.

so im guessing if this dog has heart worm already, then the zimectrin gold will cure that as well, not just prevent it? Right?
thanks,
mike.

I'm not too sure, but I don't think you can cure heartworm, and have to be real careful worming a dog with heartworm.

A dog with full blown heart worms (adults lodged in the heart and lungs) can die if the peices of dead worms break off and move and then end up blocking blood flow.

Dogs can't be allowed to exersize while being treated and should be watched carfully.

Foster and Smith had an excellent monthly newsletter several years ago.
Levamisole Hydrocloride, a sheep wormer. Big pill.
Break the pill into a smaller dose.
If anyone is interested i can look it up in my notes.

Give 10 day in a row. Skip 10 days. Give ten more.

Used this on a 6 or 7 year old female about twenty years ago.
She quit wheezing and coughing and lived to about 11 years old.
And she did not get stupid like some do on arsenic treatment.

With the Zemectrin Gold most worms will be digested.. but it will not affect heartworms..
read what Poorboy said about levamasole sheep wormer.. IT WILL CLEAR UP HEARTWORMS... cost is less than $50. the complete dosage was in the foster and Smith catalog about 20 years ago.. (( have it in my hand right now) dosage listed is 1 tablet per 40 lbs per day for 10 days... skip 10 days then again give it for 10 more days....... COMPLETE REST FOR 60 DAYS
ALWAYS GIVE Levasole WITH FOOD.

I have used it and have seen others use it.. Most vets will not try it ... the method they use makes them more income and can destroy the dogs liver.

Drinking lots of water can be a sign of Kidney problems.

Bency, I never heard of dehydration being a symton of worms. Last time I had a dog drink a ton of water he had parvo.

If that dog never had shots 'til after a year old, then you better get him in. Parvo will kill your dog!!

Good luck!!
