unreal..misdiagnosed panosteitis NOW advanced pneumonia!

Post by southwestwalkers »

Well, all I can say is watch out what the vet tells ya. This just takes it one step further to prove me and a lot of other folks right that most vets have there heads stuck where the sun don't shine. My 14 week old walker/blk-n-tan was GROSSLY misdiagnosed by two different vets at the same animal clinic earlier this week.

It turns out it wasn’t pano but advanced pneumonia. Unfortunate it’s a bad case and the lil hound is in there fighting for his life. He’s on IV’s and there giving him blanket antibiotics. There also putting a needle into his lung to suck out the fluid to identify it and get the best anti to take care of the problem. They said if they could have caught it sooner his chances would be better.

I give all my own shots other than rabies and take care of most minor ailments because I believe vets aren’t worth a dam. This hound was seen on Tuesday the 10th, Wed 11th and Friday the 13th. Each time I took him in I told them there was something not right that he was regressing. I went through two Vets before I got the correct diagnoses from the one I seen today. It took a total of three vets and they tell me today the pup is in a real bad state. This, again, is after I took him two time before and they where calling it pano!

For the first two Vets sake I hope my 14 week old pups pulls through.

Robb,
I can't remember the name of the clinic right now, but it's in NM. Right there at the line somewhere by you. The vet's name is Mark Cox - I HIGHLY recomend him. If I didn't have a good vet close by right here (that Mark told me about), I would travel to Mark for any needs.

Thanks guys.. Hopefully, I'll get good news today. These two vets that seen him Tuesday and Wed really dropped the ball.

Sorry to hear that.....That link I had posted in your other thread had some good info in diagnosing pano ---- did they do those checks/test to come to the conclusion of pano in the begining or just take their best educated guess?

Years ago I went to a vet that diagnosed a problem just by looking at the dog..........came home and did some research on what the vet said it was, everything I read stated that a certain test had to be run in order to diagnosed and confirm, needless to say, I went to a different vet and the first vet was way off.

Buckshot,

Pano was their best educated guess... no test they just called it Pano while his lungs where filling up and the Pneumonia was taking over.

I had him there Tuesday, Wed and they still called it Pano. Wasn't till Friday that a third vet at the clinic nailed it as Pneumonia by that time it was in late stages.

This has been VERY hard to deal with.. There's gotta be way for me to take legal action..

southwestwalkers- I am so sorry to hear about your loss; especially a loss that could have perhaps been prevented.

You can take this for what you paid for it but, I have worked in several vet clinics from internships and as resident farrier in many large animal clinics. Taking legal action will do nothing except break your wallet and piss you off at them even more. I've seen people who are hurt by the loss (justifiably) and they want to make it right. Odds are the vet has great insurance that will win. Period. Is it right? Prob not. Is it easy to realize? Prob not. But, my point is, I'd let it boill over a bit before you start paying retainers to attorneys who will promise you the moon on what they can do cause the reality is it WILL cost you money. Again, just my 2 cents and sorry to hear about your pup.

Brady,

It could have been prevented for sure. There no doubt about that at all.

You may be right about trying to take them to court. From what I've been hearing your not rewarded much and it may not be worth it.

It's not about money it's more about them paying for there stupidy. All that being said it's not gonna bring the pup back. It could be a waste of energy.

We all have to deal with this in our lives sometime.... next to my dad dying when I was 18 this has to be the worst loss I've been dealt in 25 yrs.

He was on his way to being a GREAT dog and he will never be forgotten. But, life goes on we all gotta turn the page evey now and then. It's part of life.
