Re: how are the wardens?
I have no problem with getting a ticket for breaking the law. That is their job. My problem is with the attitude that I am an outlaw just because I have hounds. I dont kill game out of season, I dont hunt with people that do, I try to stay on the right side of the law. I dont bait or break any other game laws. I have arrested murders and treated them better than wardens have treated me.

For Fallriver Walker, I too have lived here all my life and while I haven't hunted all the counties I've run hounds in a majority of them. In the 70s and 80s it was mostly Glenn and Tehama and now its Humboldt and Mendocino. Now that I think about it the only one I haven't hunted in is Modoc. Sorry to hear about your experiences.

Re: how are the wardens?
meat a bunch of them.. great guys for the most part.. just doing there job.. but as stated you can be a major pain in the ass doing it as well.. im becoming a cop shortly and at the department im at there main thing is "do your job, but don't be a ass" that comes from the captain he hollers it before walking into the office every single day.. well sometimes he use's other words but for the most part.. i've "heard" of one story that rubs me wrong thinkin about it
There was a warden who i want name cause i don't need a civial case... he was a pecker head if there ever was one.. tickets left and rite for ANYTHING NO VERBAL WARNING EITHER! constantly doing this that and the other.. acting like he was gods gift.. everyone told him that he was going to get his one day... so there was a kid with lukemya/how ever you spell it... was hunting on jeff fox worthy's land.. GOOD OLD BILL JORDAN.. called the warden on them for hunting over corn.. the kid was going to die in like 2 weeks or some crap.. hell he was in a wheel chair.. this c.s comes out there, give the KID A TICKET!! no shit.. this kid is dying wantin to have a last hunt and they give him a ticket!!! well of course people say "he was doing his job" well the guy who took the kid hunting happened to be very good friends with sonny purdue.. well the warden pepper sprayed the guy who was friends with perdue for being "irrate" and thats how he got fired.. pretty much they fired him for being a jerk off.. but they just used the fact of the "unecessary" pepper spraying as a excuse.. i personally feel that wardens like him are the reason for the "bad wrap" i mean.. its basic crap your taught as a officer.. don't be a jerk... BUT IN EVERY WARDENS FAVOR I WILL SAY THIS... think of every jerk that you know that hunts... they deal with them every day.. they deal with idiots non stop.. they deal with guys who lie to them non stop.. they deal with people who try to hurt them non stop.. they deal with nothing but asses all day

Re: how are the wardens?
Hate every one of the dirty SOBS in CO, they know why too!
Only met a few in UT, they seemed alright, one saw our dogs run a bear and asked if he could join in cuz he was so excited about it, so we let him.
The ones in AZ are pretty cool dudes. Some have a couple hounds. Dirty Deeds went to the local ones house and he lived just down the road from us, so he took him home, before he could his daughters had Deeds in the house watching Scooby Doo and eating Chips Ahoy cookies by the ton lol. He still brings that up when he runs into us.
The ones around here have made house calls to check bears in and they aren't very rude, you give them a few minutes to stop and visit, they will be nice, they don't write tickets for stupid stuff, but they don't let stuff get killed right and left.
Every AZ GAF I have talked to has been in favor of a pursuit season down here, so they are obviously not against us.
Big change from CO F.A.G officers (excuse the abbreviation if you will) to down here, honestly I think it would be cool to work for them, company truck, out in the woods, protecting the wildlife we love so much, I think it would be cool, I've started schooling for it already, I just want a Toyota instead of those FORDS >.< LOL

Re: how are the wardens?
There are a few good ones but thats not the norm. They are taught that everyone is breaking the law in some way, and when they violate the US constitution to try to prove you broke some game law, which is the greater evil. You also realize most of the money from tags and lic. sales goes to law enforcement, not habitat or game managment.

Re: how are the wardens?
I've been stopped by wardens in ND, SD, MN and WI. The ones in WI are easily the worst out the ones I've ever met. The ones in other states have been great. I have the same take as Ron on this. You get a new one and it's a few years until they figure out the ropes then they are gone. There are good and bad, just depends on who you get. The warden on one side of the highway, I would glady pull him out of the ditch with a tow strap if he needed it. The one on the other side of the highway, I'd cut down 15 trees if I knew he was at the end of a dead end trail. Make the dink, sweat his ass off to get out or walk home.
The thing that pisses me off about WI, is they've got some of the most stupidest game laws on the books. They have the most meaningless ticky/tack laws that don't do a bit of good towards wildlife conservation, but enable a CO to write out a hefty ticket if a hunter is not paying attention. I could go on and on about it, but it's not worth the time. All it does is make normal game law abiding citizens not care about regulations because the squirrel sherriff is ready to hammer their ass for some trivial thing because that will generate revenue for the state.

Re: how are the wardens?
When i was 12, me and my cousin ran a small trapline around our house. one day while checking our line on my dad's fourwheeler, we came up out the ditch on foot with the fourwheeler parked along a back country road. and all hell broke loose. Here comes this warden truck flying down the road with the lights flashing slams on the brakes and parks sidways in the road. Two wardens jump out with the hand on there pistol. and proceed to give us hell. I ended up getting a ticket for not having a helmet on and tryed to get us for not having our traps tagged properly. But anyway COME ON Get A F#@&ing life, two kids out enjoying the great outdoors, staying out of trouble and not bothering any body. Get a life. Needless to say not much respect here. Minnesota is always trying to promot the great outdoors to kids, which is great but it aint much fun when you got some dink breathing down your neck all the time.
A few years back my dad and little brother went in to get our cats tagged at the local DNR office, got them tagged. Then the next day the local CO showed up at the door and wanted to question my little bro by himself about the cats. He was like 10 or 12 at the time. There was deffinetly nothing to hide, but that's beside the point. My dad told him to get lost.

Re: how are the wardens?
I have got to say that a warden is a warden, they have a job to do as every one of us. Have I had my run-ins with them over the years? Yes, I have. Would I say that what they put me through was beyond what I would expect from a person hired to protect a resource that we enjoy so much? No, you will catch more ants with honey than you will with salt! If you don’t have anything to hide, then what’s the big deal if you are detained for a while when they do their investigation? Having hounds does not mean you are a desperado or an outlaw and it’s up to every one of us to prove that! We and our trail hounds serve a vital role in predator management. Why not represent yourself that way? All wardens want to be good at their job and I would hope that we all would as well, make it easy on them and the next time they contact you they might and I say might just chat and drink a soda with you. Protect my resource so I have something to trail and tree as well as my children and grand children. Don’t be ignorant of the laws and regulation in you state and if you’re UN sure check before you do. Law enforcement personnel are not perfect but being stupid sure make them look like it. This is not a “Jerry Maguire” mission statement but one that will possibly keep you out of trouble.

Re: how are the wardens?
If you look at the game laws in your state, some of the laws make the officers ass holes, here in Ca. we have great game saving law of only one dog per licensed hunter while deer season is still open, the way I understand it this was put in place years ago when some of the deer hunters that ran dogs would run a deer drive with up to 20 dogs, then there's the no GPS or treeing switch laws and the only reason we have them were to keep the antis at bay, I know that in most of the states the officer has the choice to use his own discretion to write the ticket or not but I bet they are under a lot of pressure to "justify there existence". I know that here in Ca. we are considered a "revenue source" for broke state, but it still doesn't give them the right to treat us all as outlaws first and decent houndsmen second.

Re: how are the wardens?
Here in Tx, we was calling up bobcats at night and had a truck up the road full of hounds to dump on the cats. We had a cat about 20 yards from the truck and this prick pulled up with his lights flashing and and ran up to my light shining in the brush and was saying " I have your Axx know boys" ran out in the brush and was looking all around asking where the deer was. I told him we was calling up cats and dumping dogs on them and shooting what ever else showed up like coyotes or fox. Well about that time my buddy with the dogs pulled up in his truck and the game warden really started flipping out saying how he had us and made us sit down on the ground while he searched our trucks. Well didnt find anything in my truck and then he said oh, I will find somthing in this truck and we had caught 2 cats all ready and they where on top of the aluminum dog box and he couldnt see inside of the dog box so he just dumped the dog box and all the dogs take off on the cat and end up treeing it while the prick was checking inside the cab and finally he said that he was going to get me next time and took off. I had a little giggle as I took off to the cat tree!!!
