Callouses on elbows

Post by Jordan Run Walkers »

I just recently bought a hound that has huge callouses on her elbows front and rear. Worse on the rear. They stick out like golf balls. It doesn't seem to bother her but I sure would like to get rid of them. I don't know if they came from lack of bedding or what. She has plenty of bedding in her box now, but don't know what she had before. Any suggestions on why she got them and how to cure them?

They are from not having anything to lay on except cement. Still can't believe how some houndsmen take care of thier dogs. They will go away with time now that she has something to lay on. For everything these dogs do for us and still some guys just don't get it.

My opinion. FCH is partly right. Cement will cause it along with lack of bedding in a wood doghouse. I believe it will never go away, but it is not a painful condition and shouldn't affect her hunting. I wouldn't try to fix it either, it usually will just make it worse. :(

i HAD SOME REAL GOOD LUCK USING CORN HUSKERS LOTION ON A DOG THAT HAD THEM ONCE, I PUT IT ON INTIL THE BOTTLE WAS GONE AND THEY WENT AWAY SHORTLY THERE AFTER, IT'S CHEAP ENOUGH TO TRY IT, IF IT DOESNT WORK FOR YOU AT LEAST YOUR DOG WILL SMELL GOOD AND YOU WILL HAVE SOFT HANDS

I'll stop and get me a bottle of it today and start putting it on her and see what happens. My ole cracked hands could use some of it too.

Just cause they have the callouses on them does not mean they had nothing to lay on, my lab has them on all 4 legs and he is a 100% house dog, he lays on my bed all day every day, and my hounds who live in wood dog houses with straw and a gravel run don't have any, even though when it's not cold out they prefer to lay on the gravel in front of the dog house!

I had the same issue witha dog i got from AZ and it turned out to be cactus thorns in her skin. The skin had tuoghened around them and walled them off. I would squeeze them until the stickers would come to the surface and remove with hemostats. after the removal streams of very thick hard yellow/white substance came out and eventually the swelling went down to a normal level.

Put the Corn Huskers lotion on everyday at feeding time. Used up almost 2 bottles of it and the callouses disappeared and haired over. Good stuff. Thanks Waylon

True Bear in the air, I have a old fat lazy catahoula who sleeps on the couch, carpet, easy chair, etc that has them. She'd sleep on the bed if she could work up the energy to jump that high.
Oiler coach Bum Phillips when asked why he takes his wife on all the road trips.
Phillips: “Because she is too damn ugly to kiss good-bye.”
Not sure if it's true, just funnier than hell. A been there done that moment.
