False Treeing

Post by michigan_bearhunter06 »

I have a dog i have been running on bear over the summer. I have jumped some bear with her and had some really good runs. But she has false treed 3 times... its not many but enough to piss me off. 2 weekends ago we had her and 4 other dogs on a mean walking bear.. her and all the dogs got bit up and didnt stop untill we pulled them off. Ran her again last weekend...she jumped the bear with another dog ran good for a while and ended up at another false/slick tree. Can anyone give me a reason as to why a hound will do this???or give any advice? Thank you.

A tree happy dog, not good. A buddy of mine had a new dog, doing that this summer, when we got to the tree, we let them know we wasnt happy. Then to teach them, we held the tree happy, and let the remaining dogs, find where the bear went out, and let them go after it again, then let tree happy go. Seems that helped the problem. She hasnt had any slick tree's lately, LOL.

i agree with rigit and cat n bear . good tree dogs know better . if a dog is scared of a bear they will do it to once they catch up to the bear they have to do something other than face of with ol nasty so they go to treeing . i have seen it and heard about it from other bear hunters. if the dog isnt scared of a bear then you need to do some correcting for this cause walking miles into a slick bear tree isnt gonna help you or your pack out . cull if necessary.

Well let me tell ya what I seen one time, might explain some "slick trees" with bear dogs. Was running a bear in a deep valley. We had posted watchers on the top on the side it was headed for.By chance I was in the right spot.Bear comes right up over straight to me(doesnt see me)He is still well in front of the dogs.Up a tree he goes about 15 feet or so.Hangs there a half min or so watching back toward the dogs.Slides down a few feet and bails, lands a gtood 12 or more feet away from the tree.Couple mins here comes the pack, all 7 dogs lock up on that tree. And Im talkin for the most part GOOD dogs.Once more help arrived we did get them off the tree back on the track

With a dog I will walk into a slick tree twice once to get the dog the second time to get the collar.

i'm gonna go with tapping. bears aint as dumb as we may think and bears that get run on a regular basis learn to tap and leave.
